Preparations for next season are underway.

Now is the time when we look to our community for volunteers to join our local Surf Life Saving committee.

The Narooma Surf Life Saving Club’s 40th Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 1st August 2021 from 3pm at the Clubhouse. Everyone is encouraged and most welcome to attend. A zoom option is available to anyone who would prefer to attend virtually. Please contact our Secretary for details.

We are looking to strengthen our club culture with an energetic and innovative committee for the 2020-21 season. Yes, we want your help! Join the management team and contribute your skills and specialised knowledge. You don’t even have to get your feet wet.

All positions will be declared vacant and we look forward to members young and old helping with the ongoing sustainability of the club. It is a great way to meet people if you are new to the area, surf lifesaving experience is not a pre-requisite for many of the roles.

We would also like to appeal to our Cadet members to be more involved. The club is always in favour of developing a shadow program where our youth members volunteer in roles with an adult mentor to support them. Any area of the club you would like experience in, let us know. Think Publicity, First Aid, Lifesaving, Nippers, Surf Sports, Coaching, Official, Beach Management, IRBs – there is a shadow role for you!

Nominations for all candidates to be elected as Officers of the Club are called for the following positions:

Please direct your enquiries and your nominations to the Club Secretary Glenn Bywater.

Life Membership Recognition

At the recent Senior Presentation evening, two of our long-serving volunteers were elevated to the distinguished position of Narooma Surf Life Saving Club Life Member. The honour recognised Glenn and Belinda Bywater who have been familiar faces within our club for many years. In the time that Glenn and his wife Belinda have held executive roles in Narooma Surf Life Saving Club, they have been instrumental in applying for and successful in obtaining grants in excess of $100,000 towards improvements to the club.

Glenn Bywater
Glenn has been an active member of the club with 668 career patrol hours. He volunteered as Club Captain from 2006 to 2011 and currently holds Narooma Surf Club position of Secretary and has done so since 2012. Glenn also; Manages and holds the liquor license for the club; Manages hall bookings; Completes all Carnival entries; Volunteers as an official at local and state-run carnivals; Regular volunteer at Nippers and board training sessions; Assists at all working bees and club events; Prepares for and assists at Frothy Friday events which drives engagement between club members.

Belinda Bywater
Belinda has been an associate member of Narooma SLSC since 2008/09 season and has held the position of Treasurer ever since. Belinda has completed the age manager course but is usually found in the kitchen on Nipper days, helping with the preparation and serving of the Nipper BBQ/canteen. Belinda is always found assisting club events like the Australia Day breakfast; takes the minutes at club meetings and is a diligent administrator for the club. When Belinda first took on the position of treasurer she saw an opportunity to claim GST for the club and went about gathering data of many years-worth of records which enabled the club to receive a backdated GST amount of many thousands of dollars. She has gone on to keep the club’s finances compliant with all SLSNSW and ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission) requirements. Belinda has maintained financial statements in accordance with financial auditor standards, prepared activity statements and ATO returns on behalf of the club as well as kept up to date monthly bank reconciliation records. Belinda has spent many volunteer hours at night and weekends, year-round over the 13 years since joining Narooma Surf Life Saving club. Belinda is community minded, flexible, has a genuine interest in helping others. She always shows a good moral judgement, integrity and is well organised.

We are very appreciative of the time and commitment both Glenn and Belinda have given to the club and congratulate them on their Life Membership induction.
