Nippers Pool Proficiency Swim THIS Saturday from 9am

** Note: Date has been revised from when originally published **

Saturday 24 October 2020

From 9am - 11am

Held at Narooma Pool

Compulsory For U8 - U14's

Nothing to be nervous about. Most age groups are untimed.

This morning is an evaluation to ensure we are aware of your child's abilities in a safe, flat water environment - before we hit the beach. You will have to pay entry to the pool, unless you have a season pass. Bring your towel & goggles. Locate your age group over by the tiered seating when you arrive.

This is an opportunity for Nippers organisers to see what you can do, to provide knowledge for organising activities and water safety personnel.

If you haven't already signed up, our registrar Ella will be at the pool to get you sorted!

We have a new Club Captain taking the reigns!

A warm welcome to Claudia Ferguson who is one of many new members who have joined our club this season.

We are delighted to have Claudia on board as an active patrolling member, who has enthusiastically taken on the role as our Club Captain.

Claudia is a catch for our club!

She has a wealth of experience and lifesaving training behind her, a transfer from Broulee Surfers SLSC, Claudia is a keen surfboat rower. We look forward to seeing her wearing our red, white and black cap - and seeing our surfboat back in the water!

We thank our outgoing Club Captain Troy, for his dedication to the role over the past few seasons, a big undertaking given the busy work and family commitments he and Kristy share. Troy of course will not be a stranger to the club. We are delighted to hear this week's announcement that covid restrictions are being lifted on Gyms. Narooma Fitness Centre's 24 hour access can now be reinstated, which means he can spend more time with us on the beach!

If you would like to introduce yourself, offer your assistance or share your ideas with Claudia, contact her on 0477 768 776 or email claudia.ferguson@austcommunitymedia.com.au

Lots of new faces!

Registration day was a great success with us welcoming many new families who have signed up for the upcoming season. Thank you to all the members that volunteered their day to make it happen; Ella, Belinda, Carla, Monica, Fleur, Lisa, Glenn and Jon, a great team effort.

We also saw some faces from seasons past! So exciting! Thank you for supporting us by coming back for another season and making us be sustainable for the future.

We are always looking to increase our number of patrolling members so if you are still considering helping out this season, we would love to have you. Even if your availability isn't the best, we would love to have you join and make whatever contribution you can manage.

The clubhouse is looking fantastic with many projects underway.

Our clubhouse kitchen renovation plans are progressing with a new fridge and commercial oven. We cannot wait to see the modernised cabinetry by Chris Young's Joinery which is in the works.

A re-configuration and easy access organisation of the club equipment downstairs is in progress with many hardworking members doing the heavy lifting, cleaning, sorting and donating their trade skills to bring it all together.
A big thank you to
  • Geoff Newton of South Coast Outdoor Products who is fabricating new stainless steel frames and modifying our trailers.
  • Paul White who has been busy, keeping on top of the electrical fitting out.
  • Our Gear Steward Brendan O'Mahony who has been sweating it out perfecting the IRB, lifesaving gear trailer and equipment.
  • Podge who has completed a stocktake and order of the first aid supplies for the season ahead.
  • Dobbo who is never far away with his assistance, utilising his valuable carpentry skillset.
  • Our executive committee who have been working hard managing all of this as well as putting Covid regulations and safe practices in place for the season ahead.
  • all those that helped out on the working bee in the off-season.
  • anyone not mentioned that should have been!

Bring on Summer!

Nippers Age Managers wanted.

We are looking for some helpers to help us on the beach as Age Managers. We like each age group to have a couple of willing helpers to take each group to activities.
We require you to have a Working with Children Check (WWCC) from Service NSW, a sense of fun, and we will help you with the rest. You don’t need to get wet if you don’t want to go be involved with your child at Nippers.
Please contact Nippers Coordinator Carla if you are interested.

New Bronze and SRC course start dates still to be advised.

Register your interest with Claudia Ferguson or Ben Bate.

It is best to run everyone through the course together so please let us know who you are and we will get a start date organised. Make sure you are registered and complete a timed pool swim of 200m less than 5 minutes for SRC and 400m less than 9 minutes for BM in the meantime.
The course combines online and face-to-face components.

Requal training updates for patrolling members to be carried out on patrol.

Ben will attend patrols and complete Bronze and SRC requal up until Christmas. There are a few changes that everyone needs to be brought up to date with.

Subject to conditions, we will hold the run-swim-run and board paddle at 9am on the first patrol, Sunday 1st November.

Please check the members area https://members.sls.com.au and make sure you have completed all relevant e-learning modules, courses and updates.
