 New Pioneers Update

Highlighting our Education Coordinator,
esteemed Board Member, programs and resources

Welcome Jane!

Following a month-long search that garnered interest from across the country, we are pleased to welcome Education Coordinator Jane Rudnick to the New Pioneers team.

Jane will assist New Pioneers with communications and outreach efforts, including establishing a youth sustainability program in our tri-County region. “I’m looking forward to building relationships in the community and educating others about sustainable living,” she said, “I’m also excited to see the youth program take off!”

Jane holds a B.A. in Communications and M.S. in Digital Media from Bellarmine University. This summer, she worked with Catholic Charities of Louisville to provide resources and programming for refugee families.  She will work with New Pioneers through August 2021 in a partnership with AmeriCorps’ Environmental Education Leadership Corps.
Board Member Recognized by Governor

Governor Beshear recently appointed New Pioneers Board Member Anne Chaney as a member of the Commission on Human Rights, whose purpose is to protect Kentuckians from discrimination and ensure equality in the state. As president of Impetus Consulting, Anne is dedicated to “creating a world in which equality of opportunity is readily available to everyone.” Congratulations, Anne!

Oral History Project Now Online

Upstream, Downstream: A Community Oral History of the Beech Fork Watershed Project now has its own page on the New Pioneers website. There, you can learn more about this community initiative, listen to excerpts from interviews, or sign up to participate.

Through this project, we are bringing together stories about our local waterways so we can enjoy them and leave a valuable record for generations. It is made possible by a grant from the Kentucky
Oral History Commission and with support from Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Loretto Community, New Pioneers, and Washington County Public Library.
