Walterdale Theatre is holding auditions for our two selections for this year’s FROM CRADLE TO STAGE. Here are the selections:

A Divine New Comedy by Mark Greene. Dramaturged by Mieko Ouchi.

Full of tongue-in-cheek humour, this irreverent comedy follows Jesus of Nazareth as he struggles to keep both of his dads happy.  While Joseph wants Jesus to get into the family business of carpentry, God has very different plans. Can Jesus complete the new housing development that Joseph has won a contract for AND make his other dad proud? What a cross to bear!

Rehearsals for Jesus Master Builder

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, March 1. Rehearsals will be on Sunday, Monday & Wednesday evenings, and will increase closer to performance dates. All actors must be fully available from May 10 – 23 for tech week and all performances.

Rehearsals for Magpies

Rehearsals will begin at the beginning of March, with more specific information to follow. They will be conducted every Sunday and Thursday evening, and will increase closer to performance dates. All actors must be fully available for all performances. 

Audition Requirements for both pieces

- Monologue & Joke – Maximum 2 minute contemporary monologue and a joke of your choice (something clean-ish preferred)
- CALL-BACKS (if required):  Wednesday, February 18th between 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Walterdale Theatre.

Please bring all conflict dates you have to the audition. Headshots and resumes are recommended but not required.

Copies of both scripts are available on loan from Walterdale. Contact the Theatre Administrator at to sign one out (please specify which play).

Walterdale Theatre is a volunteer organization, and cannot engage Equity performers.

We require 6 actors (5 men & 1 woman, all 18+ please) for a 2-day workshop.  We will be working through scenes with the playwright and dramaturg present for research purposes.

Deciding to be a gay celibate in New York City is an impossible challenge, but what else is a guy to do when the alternative is certain death? As fate would have it, just when he makes his choice to repress it than wrap it, his friends introduce him to the man of his dreams. Jeffrey needs to navigate into a possible lifelong relationship, under the cloud of HIV, to discover the difference between the pursuit of love and physical gratification.
