A Note from the Director: Growing Roots

While the mild winter weather has given us hopeful glimpses of spring, it’s important to remember the value of seasonality, the subtle but poignant changes over the course of a year that define our sense of place. And while we yearn for the bold, green leaves and the beautifully-colored flowers of summer, any good horticulturist will tell you it’s the growth you cannot see – the growth of a plant’s roots – that is most important in setting the stage for success. 2017 Volunteer Training

Wellfield Gardens is a very special place to many. The Gardens are spectacular, but what really makes Wellfield special are the volunteers. Without volunteers and the support of the community we wouldn’t be growing, and if you have visited the Gardens recently, you can visually see how we are growing. As new gardens are built, new programs and classes are added and we need to grow our volunteer team. Being a part of Wellfield is very gratifying. Where else can you make new friends, spend time in a beautiful garden and learn new skills. Come Join our team!

If you would like to learn more about the Wellfield Volunteer Team, please contact Jodie Papandrea, Volunteer Coordinator at j.papandrea@wellfieldgardens.org or 574-266-2006.

Registration for Plein Air painting is now open!

This class is a way to create a “tool kit” for approaching the centuries old tradition of plein air painting (French for “in the open air”). Students will learn a variety of foundation techniques and tools, which will act as building blocks and skills to improve the painter’s abilities while painting and drawing in open air.
