The MVT CID welcomes Kenyattah Robinson as President and CEO. Kenyattah started with the CID on Monday, April 11. MVT CID Board Chairman, Dr. Joseph Evans, welcomed Kenyattah, saying, “Kenyattah impressed us all with his passion for our community, his commitment to working in partnership with our public and private stakeholders, and his unique qualifications to lead the MVT CID forward in its next chapter.” With more than 17 combined years of real estate finance, policy and public affairs experience, Kenyattah most recently served as a Senior Vice President and National Director on the DC-based Public Institutions team at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). freshfarm mount vernon triangle farmstand opens may 7 with spring fest event
The FRESHFARM Mount Vernon Triangle Farmstand at 5th & K Streets, NW will return for the 2016 season on Saturday, May 7 – one week earlier than last year – along with a family-friendly event, Spring Fest in the Triangle, guaranteeing a fun morning for people of all ages. The festive, open-air farmstand, supplied with certified organic produce, fruits, eggs and baked goods from Chicano Sol Farm in Blain, PA, will once again be located at the sidewalk plaza in front of City Vista. The market will be open from 10 AM to 1 PM every Saturday morning through October 29, 2016. michael schlow's alta strada opens at city vista
Renowned chef, Michael Schlow, has opened Alta Strada at 465 K Street at City Vista, marking his third restaurant in Washington, DC and the first to bear the Alta Strada name since opening the Boston-area location. Renowned for Italian comfort food, Schlow has described Alta Strada as a friendly, neighborhood trattoria. intergenerational housing at plaza west gets green light

On April 1, the District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) completed a finance package for Plaza West, an intergenerational housing development featuring family and senior housing. The $89.7 million project, developed by a team including Henson Development Company, Golden Rule Plaza, Inc. and Mission First Housing Development, will have frontage at 307 K Street, NW and 1035 4th Street, NW and will be comprised of 223 units in 12 stories. The grandfamily component of the project will have 50 units reserved for low-income grandparents who are raising the children of family members who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to do so themselves. Amenities will include a library, fitness room, children’s room, 24-hour front desk concierge and a 9,500 square foot outdoor amenity area with basketball court, garden and courtyard. Legendary Washington, DC bookseller, Politics and Prose, has opened at Busboys & Poets at 5th & K, where they will now manage the book sales for the busy restaurant and community gathering place. The arrangement unites Politics and Prose’s bookselling skills, resources and shared belief in promoting public discussions of ideas, cultural issues and current events with Busboys & Poet’s longtime commitment to celebrating cultural diversity within the framework of great food, drink and community spaces. Politics and Prose states that they've made substantial changes to the space, with new display areas and an open, welcoming feel. The book selection is completely new, with a range of titles that reflect the interests and diversity of the MVT community and the Busboys and Poets audience, and a strong children’s section. Politics and Prose will kick things off with a program of free author events lined up for April, and on April 20, will welcome Nathalia Holt for ‘Rise of the Rocket Girls: The Women Who Propelled Us, From Missiles to the Moon’, as part of a new program called “It’s Science”. mvt spotlight: executive chef joshua laban perkins of l'hommage bistro francais
L’Hommage Bistro Francais is the newest dining concept from restaurateur Hakan Ilhan, inspired by his weekend visits to Paris while attending university in the United Kingdom. With seating for 200 inside and another 82 on the outdoor patio, L’Hommage offers a casual and approachable French dining experience. Executive Chef, Josh Laban Perkins, works with local farms and food purveyors to bring the freshest meats and produce to L’Hommage for his take on classic French dishes like steak frites and coq au vin. In addition to the main dining room and lounge area, the bistro features a bakery, offering a full coffee menu, grab-and-go snacks and dinner entrees, and made-to-order sandwiches. Breads and pastries are prepared in-house daily. L’Hommage maintains a wine list of more than 200 bottle options, six wines and more than a dozen European beers on draft, as well as local beers and cocktails. L’Hommage can host private events in their bright, cheerful rooms, including breakfast meetings and morning events. In late March, DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Brian Kenner, announced that Voltron Community Partners (comprised of Dantes Partners, Spectrum Management, Menkiti Group, and Bailey Real Estate Holdings) has been awarded the right to develop Capitol Vista as a 100% affordable workforce housing apartment community with 2,785 square feet of retail space. The building will have a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments totaling 72 units. Voltron will also complete a new park/plaza space, provide more than 200 construction and permanent jobs and generate $8.3 million in tax revenue. Click here for the DMPED press release.
bhakti yoga re-opens with full schedule of classes
