spring cleaning? put your giveaways to use at central union mission's ready2recycle program

You may not know that our MVT CID Clean Team Ambassadors come to us from Central Union Mission’s “Ready to Work” job training program, which has helped to stabilize and transform the lives of many of our formerly homeless neighbors. Our friends at Central Union Mission have a new program called “Ready2Recycle” and would welcome donations from the community. Better yet, they will be happy to pick up donations directly from you! Ready2Recycle is a new service opportunity that benefits you or your group or club as well as Central Union Mission residents. The Ready2Recycle work development program employs graduates from the organization’s spiritual transformation program to pick up, sort and manage donations, which are distributed at their Food PLUS Center or used to help provide products and services for the vulnerable people they serve. Needs include small appliances and household items, exercise and outdoor equipment, home textiles, kids’ toys and stuffed animals, kitchen goods, books, magazines and other media and clothing. For more on how to support all of the important Central Union Mission programs and donate to Ready2Recycle, click here.
mvt freshfarm farmstand kicks off with spring fest

MVT residents and visitors chased away a week of rain as we celebrated the successful start of the 2016 MVT FRESHFARM Farmstand with “Spring Fest in the Triangle.” Opening day sales were higher than any previous MVT Farmstand May weekend. And more than two-thirds of opening day customers (68%) were first-time visitors, foretelling a promising 2016 season! Our friends from Chicano Sol farm kicked off the season with an array of delicious certified ‎organic produce and fruits, homemade breakfast muffins and pastries, jams, jellies, eggs and much more. Kids of all ages snacked on cookies, lemonade and popcorn from 5th Street Ace Hardware and Brazilian cheese bread courtesy of Texas de Brazil, and checked out the latest spring editions from BicycleSPACE. Our youngest residents got to make a potted ‪‎Mother’s Day flower and enjoy our fabulous face painter. Stay tuned for more events this summer!
