Article by Dr. N. Vaes

We are very proud to announce that Dr. N. Vaes and others have published a study about the diagnostic method of neglect patients, illustrating innovative approaches with impressive results.
This article is titled: "Capturing peri- personal spatial neglect: An electronic method to quantify visuospatial processes".
In this article, a new digitised assessment method for neglect patients is addressed. The researchers also investigated the diagnostic value of these tests by comparing results of neglect patients to results in a control group. They found several benefits of digitised tests over paper-and-pencil tests including online performance monitoring, flexible employment and availability of qualitative and quantitative information (Vaes, Lafosse, Nys, Schevernels, Dereymaeker, Oostra, Hemelsoet & Vingerhoets, 2014). In short, a very interesting study with important implications. The paper can be found here.

New features: coming soon
With Metrisquare DiagnoseIS, it is possible to make tests based on powerpoint slides. In addition, you can add all features of the test development module to these slides, to make a fully functional test, with outcome variables.
Furthermore, it will be possible to export your reports into a PDF or a MS Word file. As you can upload your reports, including pictures and drawings acquired during tests, to the electronic patient file, you don't need a scanner anymore.
Highlighted: Dot-task
This elegant test is developed by Prof. Dr. Lafosse and is very ingenious. The paradigm consists of a field with dots, that people have to connect with lines. By adjusting the parameters, such as distractor cues, colours, amount of lines and dots, shape type and presentation time, this test can be used for training and measuring a wide variety of cognitive functions, like memory, concentration, attention, set shifting, vigilance, perception, fluency and processing speed.

Metrisquare Mobile Application

The interns from the PXL (Hasselt), are improving the Metrisquare app. The previous app could only display questionnaires whereas the new app is able to run all tests made in the test developmental environment. The app is suitable as a tool to score tests, to fill in questionnaires or forms, to give information and for simple screenings. This app will be available for the iPad and Android tablets.

For neuropsychological assessment we still recommend using the Wacom tablets, because they have excellent precision, are really user friendly and are able to display all tests on full size.
Cooperation to Normdaten
Normdaten is a Swiss company that is specialized in gathering normative data for neuropsychological tests. Their sample consists of a large (N=569) group of healthy volunteers that represent all ages and educational levels.
