////   Goodbye Times Bitch: New Work by Jen Shepard

New works on paper by myself, curated by the wonderful Candace Moeller

Statement from Candace:

"Inspired by both the graffiti and natural scarification of the urban environment, Shepard's work boasts an expressive calligraphic quality and bright palette that evokes emotionally loaded, psychic landscapes."

Artist statement:
"Goodbye Times Bitch" is the phrase that was scrawled on the concrete in spray paint as the protagonists of Made in the USA–a horribly wonderful B-movie from the '80s bearing a score by Sonic Youth–staged their getaway from the post-industrial, diazinon-polluted ghost town of Times Beach. Sometimes that’s how I feel when I’m toiling away on my crudely fashioned sculptures and drawings among the detritus and filth of the post-industrial wasteland that we like to call Brooklyn: like I am departing on some psychotic roadtrip and kissing the urban decay goodbye. I want to jump in the car and take off, shouting, 'Goodbye Times Bitch!'

*PS if you would like to watch Made in the USA I probably have a shitty copy of it on VHS in storage.*

OPENING: January 9, 7-11 PM
On view through February 9th.
HOURS: Sundays 1-5 or by appointment

Brooklyn Wayfarers
1109 Dekalb Ave
Brooklyn NY 11221

Also, be sure not to miss The Body in Eden, a group exhibition with the collective Art Shape Mammoth, which is the brain child of one of my favorite Brooklen ex-pats– Margaret Coleman. The show will open the same evening and will be on display in the front gallery at Wayfarer's.

Hope to see you there!
