My boy, Koye Oyedeji, a writer and award-winning teacher at Duke Ellington School of the Arts had his short story, "Mr. Tuck," selected for publication in the City Paper's  fiction  issue. "Mr. Tuck" is about a young Nigerian boy and a neighborhood eccentric who's either crazy or endowed with magic. Read the story

Afaa Michael Weaver Reflects on Amiri Baraka

Our legends are dropping off. Of Baraka's passing, poet Derrick Weston Brown recently told me, "Damn! When we were at Furious Flower in 2004, we weren't sure who would be around for the next conference." RIP Baraka! Read Weaver's reflection.
