Baltimore Figure Skating Club

Happy Fall!

We hope everyone has had a safe summer and a calm start to the school year. While our fall skating season will look different this year, we are glad to be able to offer practice ice to our members and hope to continue to provide as much ice as possible. Our sessions are limited to 12 skaters and 6 coaches and rink management will only allow those who are signed up for a session in advance into the rink. Skaters and coaches MUST notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you will not be skating on a session for which you are scheduled.

We currently have availability on the following sessions at Ice World. Please contact if you are interested in locking in for any of these times:
  • All 3 Monday sessions: 2 skaters, 1 coach
  • Wednesday, 4:10: skater and coach slots
  • Wednesday, 6:20, 2 skaters, 1 coach
  • Thursday, 4:10: 2 skaters,1 coach
  • Saturday, 7:35: 2 skaters,1 coach
  • Saturday, 8:40: skater slots only
  • Sunday 9:15, 10:20, 11:25: at least 1 skater slot; 2 coach slots on 11:25
Congratulations to Our 2019-20 Award Winners!

The William Kirby Trophy: Named for William Kirby, treasurer 1955-1961 and Bernice Kirby, board member. Established in 1962 and awarded to the junior club skater who has made the most progress in skating during the year, from May of last year until April of this year. The progress is calculated by a points list for tests passed and competitions entered and placement.

Winner: Ryan Dunk. Ryan competed internationally on the Junior Grand Prix and won the bronze medal at his first Senior international, Asian Open. He competed at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Senior level, finishing 11th.

The Bob Van Memorial Junior and Senior Dance Trophies: Established in memory of Bob Van, who loved and taught the sport of ice dance, awarded to the skaters who attain the highest achievement in dance. First awarded in 1988. Based on the entire year, from May of last year through April of this year.

Junior: Hannah Weatherholtz, Meghan Young. Both Hannah and Meghan earned their USFS gold medal in dance after completing the Gold Dance test.

Senior: Michelle Daichman. Michelle passed her Senior Solo Free Dance test and competed in the National Solo Dance Series.

Christine Fowler Binder Silver Dance Award: Established in 2007 in honor of Christine Fowler Binder, who competed and taught ice dance at Baltimore Figure Skating Club for many years, awarded to the skater or skaters who pass the Silver Dance test during the year.

Winners: Sophie Soltanian, Matilda Trimble.

Bruno Jerry Trophy for Artistic Freeskating: Created to recognize showcase and artistic skating and named after Bruno Jerry, a former skater and coach at BFSC who was known for his artistry. Bruno competed in both freestyle and dance in the 1970s and 80s, and was a USFS gold medalist in dance at BFSC.

Winner: Paige Sawyer. Paige qualified to compete at the National Showcase Championships in Pre-Juvenile Dramatic Entertainment.

Collegiate Achievement Award: Established in 2017 to recognize the achievements of BFSC's collegiate skaters. The top 3 collegiate skaters, determined by points accumulated from tests passed and placements at intercollegiate competitions from May of last year through April of this year, will have their names inscribed on a plaque that is displayed in the club's showcase.

Drew Konetzki, Towson University. Drew passed Adult Pre-Bronze MIF and FS and competed on the Towson University intercollegiate team.
Maya Jones, UMBC. Maya won the pewter medal in Junior Ladies at the 2019 U.S. Collegiate Championships.
Margot Chirikjian, Cornell University. Margot medaled in Excel Juvenile Plus at three intercollegiate competitions this season.

After a successful inaugural year, we are looking forward to what our Junior Board will do this year. Coaches Bridget Carrig and Michelle Daichman will again advise the group. We welcome all members age 12-18 to get involved. For information, contact

Good Luck to Our Qualifying Competitors!
The following BFSC members have entered the U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series, in which the top finishers will qualify for the 2021 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. We wish them great skates and will be cheering them on!
