The Danish - Albanian Association and a New Year´s concert !

The Letter From The Consulate

No. 172.
Gentofte/Copenhagen, Thursday 3 December 2021
Dear reader,

The Danish – Albanian Association - D.A.F. was founded on the 28. of November 2021.

- Need for better mutual knowledge and long-term policies

50 Danes and Albanians living in Denmark defied the sad Sunday weather and Covid19 and had turned up at Herlev Medborgerhus situated close to Copenhagen to strengthen Danish – Albanian cooperation.

- The Albanian society is currently characterized by political, legal and economic reforms. The reforms are recognized by the Albanians as necessary in order to achieve the desired membership of the European Union.
The course towards the European Union affects not only the everyday lives of Albanians, but also attitudes, architecture and culture in general.

- There has been contact between Denmark and Albania for centuries.
Danish governments, having supported Albania both economically and with policy development for several years, including the establishment of an ombudsman's office, a few years ago chose to downgrade the efforts. Consequently and unfortunately, a few years ago, the Danish embassy in Tirana was closed.

- The Danish - Albanian Association's task will be to promote to the Danes, including Danish politicians, facts about of the rapid developments not only in Albania, but throughout the Western Balkans.
This applies not only to political developments, including the desire of Albania and the other countries of the Western Balkans for membership of the European Community, but also to draw attention to the economic opportunities and challenges posed by the Western Balkan market of some 20 million people.

The participants at the inaugural meeting agreed that there are many similarities between Denmark and Albania. Both countries are part of the group of smaller countries that need partners to advance their policies. Furthermore, the Danish and Albanian self-ironic humor's are rather similar.

The founding meeting started with a precise analysis of developments in Albania and the Western Balkans by former Ambassador to Tirana, Karsten Ankjær Pajenga Jensen.

Ambassdor Ankjær Pajenga Jensen left.

At the meeting, a five-member board was elected with Albanian Honorary Consul in Gentofte / Copenhagen Hans - Georg Nielsen as chairman.

Join D.A.F by sending a membership request to the treasurer of D.A.F., Mr. Safet Seljmanovski info@costahellerup.dk  The membership fee 2022 is only 200 DKr.

Albanian traditional songs on New Years eve:

That´s all for now,

sincerely,

Hans-Georg Nielsen
