The MacKenzie Family
Fishing Tradition
|
|
|
SCF Executive Director Maddy MacKenzie recently returned from spending three weeks salmon fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
Her dad Joe and brother Westin are commercial fishing captains who gillnet for sockeye salmon every summer. Maddy joined her dad's crew this year to help during the peak of the summer salmon harvest.
Some of her favorite childhood memories are fishing with her dad in the Puget Sound. She remembers there were always doughnuts and games on the boat to make each fishing trip extra-fun.
Maddy has not only learned fishing skills from her family, but also about fulfillment from giving back to the community. Her mom, Carie, works at Island Health's Merle Cancer Care Center and knows first-hand how philanthropy helps healthcare patients and their loved ones.
Some of Maddy's parents' favorite programs to donate to are local Patient or Emergency Assistance Funds which support people during difficult times in an immediate and flexible way.
At the Skagit Community Foundation we value family, traditions, and the causes you care about.
