CADS Notables for May 2016

Happy Spring (no more snow), friends, family, members, non-members, and subscribers of Chicago Art Deco Society!

Let's see what's on the calendar for this month!

Join CADS for an after work drop-in at the fabulous Chicago Motor Club (Hampton Inn), an "Art Deco" Gem, where we'll kick back, enjoy the warm weather, and socialize with other like-minded Art Deco patrons and guests!!!

For further reading, kindly view articles of interest on this Art Deco Gem and as one of Chicago's most threatened buildings in 2009 . Did you know that the original Chicago Motor Club started out as a group of men that wanted to exchange travel info, find the best routes, and place road signs? Imagine this before GPS, maps from triple AAA and Google Maps? Want to learn more? Then come join us for a drink and discussion on CMC! Oh, and the building is LEED Certified!

Scroll for more info in CURRENT CADS EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES!!

And of course, if you are able to join, renew, or donate to CADS, we would be very grateful. Your contributions of any size are invaluable, and they support our endeavor to be the preeminent resource for all things Art Deco in Chicago. This year we will continue to fund our Art Deco survey and subsequent book project. For more information, please visit our website. Do you have a comment or event notice for this newsletter? Thanks to everyone who joined CADS at one of America's most beautiful opera houses, the Civic Opera House. This house was the vision of utility magnate Samuel Insull (1859-1938).

Enjoy pics from our Facebook Fan Page!
Thank you also for the fascinating commentary by CADS member Carol Stitzer who was a staff member of the Lyric opera during the renovation as well as SOM architect and architectural historian, Eric Keune, who has searched SOM's archives for renovation images.
