House District 1
The General Assembly has Decided to Suspend Session

Due to growing health concerns over COVID-19 and in an effort to protect the public, our state employees, and our colleagues, the House and Senate leadership have jointly decided to temporarily suspend the General Assembly, beginning today, March 16th, 2020 and is set to resume on March 30th. This decision was not made lightly; however, we understand that it is imperative we follow expert advice on social distancing to protect our most vulnerable populations and minimize the spread of this virus.

We are all closely monitoring the situation, and leadership is in close contact with state agencies and the Governor’s office. We will continue to be informed by expert opinions and science. We are also closely watching the actions and recommendations of other states and the federal government. When it is appropriate, we will come back and continue the important work that we were elected to do.

This is an unprecedented situation, and many people are scared. Please follow the advice of medical and public health experts who have urged us all to take simple precautions. Such as regular and thorough hand washing; covering your face when sneezing or coughing; avoid touching your face; stay home when you’re feeling ill; avoid close contact with those who are sick; and cleaning surfaces and personal items in your home and workplace.

I will continue to check e-mail and voicemail remotely and send out regular newsletters as the situation evolves.

Be well.
