House District 1 January Newsletter
The 2019 Legislative Session started on January 4th, Governor Polis was inaugurated on January 9th and this is the first week we begin hearing bills in our committees. I am so excited to get started!
Our new Speaker, Representative KC Becker (D) Boulder, appointed me as the new chair of the House Health and Insurance Committee. As outlined by Governor Polis in his State of the State Address, health care costs is a big agenda item. I look forward to working together with members of the General Assembly and Governor Polis on solutions to address the high cost of health care and health insurance in our state.
This year I’ll be working on bills that address making sure students in public schools are taught comprehensive sex education that is inclusive and medically accurate; working on updating our election laws so that we continue to be a state that encourages voter participation; reducing suspensions for our children in preschool through 2nd grade and protecting our immigrant communities from overreach of the federal government.
The 3rd Annual Women’s March will be this Saturday, January 19th, 9 am - 2 pm, Civic Center Park. I hope you can join me to stand up for women in Colorado and our nation. It’s also a lot of fun!
