Construction Update
Gungahlin to Mitchell
If you take a drive along Flemington Road toward Gungahlin you will notice that workers are placing steel reinforcement for the track slab. This steel reinforcement provides strength and long term durability to the slab. You may also see our slip form paving machine in action. This machine encases the reinforcement  with concrete, which is really bringing it all together. To date we have laid over 300 metres of track slab!

On Hibberson Street, crews continue to utilise hydro-vacuum excavation to locate existing services that run underground. Around Gungahlin Place, crews have moved the hoardings back a little to provide more space on the footpaths around the hoarding. Standing bays have been created to allow for easier access for pedestrians.

Across from the Gungahlin post office, drainage works, including installation of drainage pits, and work on the services trenches continue along Hibberson Steet through to Wizard Street.

Further South, drainage crossings will be installed between the Gungaderra Bridge and Nullarbor Avenue. The Nullarbor Avenue and Flemington Road Intersection has now re-opened following track slab construction.
Mitchell to Dickson
Along the shopfronts at Mitchell, crews are working on road widening on the western side of Flemington Road from Sandford Street to Well Station Drive. The works include drainage works, laying of curb and gutter, excavation, and installation of pavement.

At the depot in Mitchell construction is progressing quickly. Crews are continuing the erection of the structural steel framework of the maintenance building.

When turning off the Federal highway onto Flemington Road, you will see crews preparing a retaining wall which will allow for the track to be laid later in the year.

Dickson to the City
Closer to the City, crews are preparing for road widening and the relocation of a gas main along the Federal Highway between Flemington Road and Phillip Avenue.  These works will include tree and street light removal, installation of temporary lighting, topsoil stripping and fencing.

Along Northbourne Avenue crews continue with cable hauling and communication cable connections.

The intersection of Ipima and Condamine Streets is closed to through traffic until mid June. Right turns will not be permitted from either street onto Northbourne Avenue.
Light Rail Vehicle Takes Shape
Construction progresses along the corridor and in Spain, production of El Tranvía de Canberra, or Canberra’s Light Rail continues full speed ahead!
