Microphone, Mixer, Cable
Our resident DJ/technical whiz is helping confirm the requirements for an all-singing, all-dancing sound system (pardon the pun) for the school hall, following which we hope to hand over some funds very soon. We’ve also received and agreed a request for funding for new picnic benches. On that note, if you are, or know of a local carpenter, able to design and build these, or if you have contact with a supplier of good quality benches, please get in touch with the school office.
Without our fundraising events, we would not be able to provide this additional funding and we would like to thank all of you that continue to support our events. We hope that by showing you that the funds are being put back into the school, your support will continue this year.

Christmas Carol Concert  “ The best one yet!”
The comments we received regarding the Christmas Carol Service were very positive and these have been fed back to the school. On behalf of the PTA we’d like to say well done and thank you to all the children who took part. Lots of you joined us for drinks & mince pies afterwards and we must apologise to anyone who missed out on a glass of mulled wine. It’s always difficult to estimate quantities, so next year we’re looking to buy extra bottles in the hope we get it right!

Any unwanted gifts or Christmas wrapping paper will be gratefully accepted for future events. Please bring to the school office – Thank You.
See below for more detail on food donations needed for our Family Bingo night.

Upcoming Events
Our first PTA meeting took place last week and as well as some Spring events detailed below, we’ve also started planning the School Summer Fair. Our theme this year will be ‘emergency services’. The obvious three are police, ambulance and fire, but we’re also including other services such as lifeguard, National blood service, search and rescue as well as HM forces– basically any organisation that provide services in an emergency situation. We’re hoping to book some exciting & interesting visitors, so if you are a member of or are in contact with any of these or similar ‘services’ or, if you have any ideas that we might incorporate into the summer fair based on this theme, please contact either Ruth Woollett (Vice-Chair) or Anita King (Chair) Please see below for details on how to contact the PTA.
Eyes down for our Family Bingo Night - Friday 29th Jan  (6pm to 8pm) at St John’s School.
Tickets on sale from Monday 18th January from school office or playground
Tickets just £4 per adult, £2 per child (and each ticket includes a book of 8 games – 1 free card per game).  For the more experienced or ambitious bingo player additional books will be available on the night for £2 each.
We have a selection of great prizes for winners as well as our lucky number raffle. Also, as we realise it can be a rush to have something to eat before an event starting this early, we will also be a selection of savoury and sweet refreshment, hot and cold drinks and the usual tuck shop.
If you aren’t able to come to the event, why not support us by donating some refreshments for us to sell?  For example, Sausage rolls, quiche, savoury tarts, a fresh salad, cakes, biscuits etc.
Suitable for all the family, pre-school children are welcome and a few toys will be made available for children to play with quietly however please remember your children remain your responsibility at all times.
Finally, if you fancy helping out rather than taking part, please click on PTASocial Family Bingo Night and check out the volunteer tasks.
Vacancy on PTA committee:
Our current Treasurer will be stepping down at the end of this academic year and we are looking for a replacement to start the necessary training and handover as soon as possible. This role doesn't require an accountant but it does need someone who is organised, has a reasonable head for figures, can use spreadsheets and is able to read and understand relevant legislation. The Treasurer has overall responsibility for managing PTA funds and complying with legislation governing charities.
The Treasurer has the following key responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed financial  records
  • Provide and account for cash floats at events
  • Count and bank money post-event and any other money raised
  • Manage the PTA bank accounts and liaising with the bank
  • Input into what PTA funds are spent on
  • Make approved payments for funding requests,
  • Make approved payments to 3rd party suppliers and reimbursing expenses
  • Prepare and counter-sign cheques as required
  • Produce a short Treasurer's report and end of year figures to be presented at the AGM
  • Supply, on an annual basis, financial and other information to the Charities Commission
  • Prepare a summary of annual income & expenditure (& supporting information) for independent review
  • Report monthly  to the PTA committee on current balance & profit and loss for each event
  • Provide adhoc financial information for PTA chair and vice-chair
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation governing Charities
Existing PTA committee members as well as normal PTA members are welcome to apply. (PTA members are defined as teaching staff or parents/carers with a child at St John’s School) Please see below for details on how to contact the PTA.
Our PTAsocial subscription has just ended and due to an increase in price of £50 per year, we have decided to move to the free with ads version of PTAsocial. This means that each email sent from the system will include a single advertising banner graphic which you can click on to link to the advertiser. These adverts are geared around topics of general interest for school parents. Please rest assured these 3rd party advertisers do not have access to your email addresses nor are your details shared by PTAsocal with other 3rd parties. We hope you will understand our decision to make this saving. It remains possible to revert to the paid with ads version if we find this free version is not suitable at a cost of £125 per year.
We now have 86 live members but we also have 45 members who have not yet accepted their invitation to use PTAsocial. We aim to use PTAsocial more regularly to communicate with parents, so to ensure you receive these messages, please click on the link to register.  If you’ve already been invited you’ll be able to log in straight away, othewise your request will be sent for approval.
There are a number of ways to contact members of the PTA: - Use the message facility on PTAsocial or you can email: email or
