Dear Library Community,

Believe it or not, it's been about six weeks since we closed our buildings to the public. During that time, we've expanded our online services, set up staff to work remotely, and assisted many of you in accessing digital services.

Our library staff have been hard at work on some new online programs and services that we're excited to share with you. We rolled out a new virtual book club in mid-April, and have been enjoying seeing your smiling faces on Zoom. We also have a brand-new digital magazine service, which gives you access to thousands of current periodicals from home. (See details on both below.) And Miss Gayle is continuing storytime on Facebook Live on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM.

We know you're wondering when we will be able to reopen. We are just as anxious as you to get in-person services going again, and we're closely following local, state, and federal health guidelines for the latest recommendations.

We've been busy planning behind the scenes so that we're ready when the day comes. Libraries across the country are sharing ideas and planning for reopening. Like them, we will likely reopen in phases, with additional services added as we can safely do so. This includes gathering adequate cleaning supplies and protective equipment as things become available.

We've been getting a lot of questions about whether you can come by to pick up a book. At this time, for patron and staff safety, we're not doing curbside pickup or accepting returns. (Your items have been automatically renewed, so no need to worry about anything being overdue.)

In the meantime, please enjoy our wide array of digital services, including ebooks, magazines, databases, how-to videos, and more. We are happy to assist you by phone or email, and you can always make a tech appointment if you need help getting started on something.

On our website, we're continuing to update our list of COVID-19 news and resources. There's also a page of fun and interesting things to do at home.

Take care of yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again soon!

Siuslaw Reading Challenge
We are modifying this year's challenge, due to the closure. You only have to get 10 punches on your entry card for the year (not all 12), and you can decide which months to skip. See the full details and list of themes on our website: https://www.siuslawlibrary.info/reading-challenge.

May's theme is books in translation. Check out a few suggestions that are available through our digital library collection.
