Dear Library Community,

It's almost Thanksgiving, the time of year when we like to stop and think about what we're grateful for. Even during what we can all agree has been a difficult year, we are so thankful for you--the patrons, volunteers, and supporters of our library. You have been kind and patient as we have tried new things, and understanding as we figured out how to best provide services. We're glad to get to see your smiling faces (we assume you're smiling under that mask, anyway) when you pick up your requests, or talk about books when you call. Thank you for being so great.

Have you always wanted to write a book? Among other things, November is National Novel Writing Month. We've got lots of resources for aspiring writers in our collection, from plot development to publishing. Request some for curbside pickup and get writing!

As always, check out our website for COVID-19 news and resources. We're continuing to expand services as we can do so safely for patrons and staff.

Take care of yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again soon!
Holiday Closures
Weds, Nov 11
Thurs & Fri, Nov 26 & 27

The library will be closed for Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11. We will also be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, November 26 & 27. In both cases, we'll reopen for phone calls, curbside pickup, and computer appointments on the following business day.
What's New Online
This month, Learning Express Library is adding a new section called Personal Success Skills. In this resource, you'll find interactive tutorials, ebooks, and articles to help with workplace skills, organization and time management, personal finance, and media literacy. You have free access to Learning Express from your own device with your library card. Just go to our website and click on "Magazines & Research" to get started.
Browse the New Shelf
Looking for something new to read or watch? Kevin has been putting together videos every week with new adult fiction and nonfiction books, as well as new DVDs, lists of recommendations if you like a particular author, and more. Watch our social media for the latest videos, or subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified when there's something new!
Book Brunch
Thursday, November 12, 10:30 AM
You're invited! Join the library's virtual book club for a discussion of Country Grit by Scottie Jones. We have some book club copies available to borrow before the meeting.

Contact or call 541-997-3132 to request a copy of the book and to get the required Zoom meeting passcode.

See you there!
Siuslaw Reading Challenge
We are modifying this year's challenge. You only have to get 10 punches on your entry card for the year (not all 12), and you can decide which months to skip. See the full details and list of themes on our website:

November's theme is American history. Here are a few suggestions from our collection, which you can request for curbside pickup or through our digital collection (if available):
Take & Make Activities
Pick Up: Mon-Thurs 11-2, Fri 11-6
Miss Gayle is stocking the storytime cart with fresh activity kits every Tuesday. From fork painting to mini lava lamps, every week brings something new and fun to do at home! Stop by and pick up your free kids' crafts for ages 0-10, in the front lobby of our Florence location, while supplies last.
Curbside Hold Pickup is Here!
Phone Request Hours: Monday-Friday, 10 AM - 1 PM
Pickup Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM; Friday 11 AM - 6 PM

Curbside pickup has moved into our front lobby for the season. You can also drop off your returns and pick up kids' activities at the same time. Don't forget your mask!

Call us at 541-997-3132 during phone request hours, or go to any time to get started. You can request up to five items, which are usually available the following weekday.

We're now doing weekly pickup service in Mapleton, too. Call us to arrange to get your materials at the Mapleton branch on Thursday afternoons.

We're not doing walk-in/drive-up orders at either location, so you'll need to call ahead or go online to make your requests. We can even select things for you based on what you like!

Need help searching the catalog? Check out this brief video that will give you an overview of basic and power searches, and browsing new items.
Item Returns
Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM
Friday, 11 AM - 6 PM

We've moved the item return bins into the front lobby. You can now pick up your holds and drop off your returns in the same place. Days and hours remain the same. We're quarantining returns for 72 hours before checking them in.

For upriver patrons, the outside book drop at Mapleton is open.
Make a Computer Appointment
Mon-Fri, 11:30 AM & 5 PM
Need to print, check email, or use the internet? You can now make an appointment to use one of our computers! One-hour appointments twice daily. Call 541-997-3132 to reserve a time; walk-ins welcome as space allows.

Have your own device? Our free public wifi is always on in the Florence and Mapleton library parking lots. We've recently increased the signal in Florence with new access points. There's no password required for wifi. Look for the blue signs in the parking lot with network information.
