Dear Library Community,

It's still officially summer, but with September comes thoughts of fall. We are ready for a pot of soup on the stove, a cozy sweater, and a good book to read. This month's Siuslaw Reading Challenge theme fits perfectly with that image--historical fiction is just what we need to take us away for a few hours. Whether your tastes run to World War II, the Renaissance, or sometime in between, we've got great books to choose from. You can request some with curbside pickup (see below), and even ask the librarians to pick something out just for you!

If you've got young children at home, you're probably looking for something fun to do. In addition to our virtual Facebook Live storytimes on Tuesdays and Fridays, Miss Gayle is putting together free weekly activity kits for kids. See below for details. And if you have kids starting school soon, there are lots of resources available with a Siuslaw Public Library District library card, from research databases to books to math and reading practice! You can apply for a temporary card online.

As always, check out our website for COVID-19 news and resources. We're continuing to expand services as we can do so safely for patrons and staff.

Take care of yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again soon!
Take & Make Activities
Pick Up: Mon-Thurs 11-2, Fri 11-6
Miss Gayle is stocking the storytime cart with fresh activity kits every Tuesday. From fork painting to mini lava lamps, every week brings something new and fun to do at home! Curbside Hold Pickup is Here!
Phone Request Hours: Monday-Friday, 10 AM - 1 PM
Pickup Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM, Friday 11 AM - 6 PM
Did you know you can request up to five items for curbside pickup? Call us at 541-997-3132 during phone request hours, or go to any time to get started. Items are usually available the following weekday.

We're now doing weekly pickup service in Mapleton, too. Call us to arrange to get your materials at the Mapleton branch on Thursday afternoons.

We're not doing walk-in/drive-up orders at either location, so you'll need to call ahead or go online to make your requests. We can even select things for you based on what you like!

Need help searching the catalog? Check out this new video that will give you an overview of basic and power searches, and browsing new items.
Siuslaw Reading Challenge
We are modifying this year's challenge. You only have to get 10 punches on your entry card for the year (not all 12), and you can decide which months to skip. See the full details and list of themes on our website:

September's theme is historical fiction. Here are a few suggestions from our collection, which you can request for curbside pickup or through our digital collection (if available):
Item Returns
Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM
Friday, 11 AM - 6 PM

We're accepting your checked-out items for return at our Florence location. Stop by during return hours and drop your items in the outside bin at our back entrance off Maple Street. For safety, returned items are quarantined for 72 hours before we check them in.

For upriver patrons, you can now return your items in the outside Mapleton book drop.
