Dear Library Community,

This Friday, we're honoring our own Yvonne Pappagallo, who's officially retiring from the library after nearly 18 years. Yvonne will continue to work part-time in administration, so she'll still be around to say hello, but you won't see her friendly face at circulation anymore. You're invited to help us celebrate with a drive-thru retirement party on Friday, October 2, 11 AM - 1 PM. Yvonne will be in the front library lobby to wave and say hello to everyone as you drive by--socially distanced, of course.

Looking for something new to read or watch? Kevin has been putting together videos every week with new fiction and nonfiction books, as well as new DVDs, lists of recommendations if you like a particular author, and more. Watch our social media for the latest videos, or subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified when there's something new!

As always, check out our website for COVID-19 news and resources. We're continuing to expand services as we can do so safely for patrons and staff.

Take care of yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again soon!
What's New Online
We're always looking for ways to expand our digital resources for you. Here's what's new this month:

NewsBank. This database of local and national newspapers lets you enjoy current issues and search for past articles. It includes The Eugene Register-Guard and The Oregonian.

Consumer Reports. We now have a digital subscription to this popular magazine. You can find the latest reviews for appliances, vehicles, and more.

You can access all of these and more with your library card. Check out the latest updates on our website!
Technology & Access: Your Feedback Needed
Our library has been selected to participate in the 2020 Oregon Edge Data Fluency Cohort. Along with a group of 10 other libraries from around the state, we'll be assessing our local digital resources and figuring out how to improve technology access--not just at the library, but throughout our community. We'll be looking at things like how to get internet access to more people, and how to increase technology education and training.

If you have ideas for how to improve technology access, or areas where you think we should start, email ref@siuslawlibrary.org or call 541-997-3132. Thank you!
Book Brunch
Thursday, October 8, 10:30 AM
You're invited! Join the library's virtual book club for a discussion of Miracle Creek by Angie Kim. We have some book club copies available to borrow before the meeting.

Contact ref@siuslawlibrary.org or call 541-997-3132 to request a copy of the book and to get the required Zoom meeting passcode.

See you there!
Siuslaw Reading Challenge
We are modifying this year's challenge. You only have to get 10 punches on your entry card for the year (not all 12), and you can decide which months to skip. See the full details and list of themes on our website: https://www.siuslawlibrary.info/reading-challenge.

October's theme is literary award winners. Here are a few suggestions from our collection, which you can request for curbside pickup or through our digital collection (if available):

Pickup Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM, Friday 11 AM - 6 PM

We're now doing weekly pickup service in Mapleton, too. Call us to arrange to get your materials at the Mapleton branch on Thursday afternoons.

We're not doing walk-in/drive-up orders at either location, so you'll need to call ahead or go online to make your requests. We can even select things for you based on what you like!

Need help searching the catalog? Check out this brief video that will give you an overview of basic and power searches, and browsing new items.
Item Returns

Friday, 11 AM - 6 PM

We're accepting your checked-out items for return at our Florence location. Stop by during return hours and drop your items in the outside bin at our back entrance off Maple Street. For safety, returned items are quarantined for five days before we check them in.

For upriver patrons, you can now return your items in the outside Mapleton book drop.
