Paddles & Trails | December 2016
Happy holidays from the Friends of Killarney Park
Dear Friends,

Over the past year, Friends of Killarney Park continued to fulfill our role in supporting the environmental, educational and recreational goals of Killarney Provincial Park. Thanks to the support and generosity of friends, volunteers and donors like you we invested over $40,000 in 2016 on a number of important initiatives - from replacing backcountry boardwalks to supporting the National Heritage Education program to cleaning up graffiti in the Park. We will continue this important work in the new year.

As you relax and reflect this holiday season, please consider making a donation to the Friends to support our ongoing work to keep the Park wild for the benefit of future generations. All donations made by December 31, 2016 are eligible for a 2016 charitable tax receipt. If you wish to make a donation, please visit the Canada Helps website.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Friends of Killarney Park, I wish you a safe and memorable holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the Park next year.
Warm regards,
Kris Puhvel
Executive Director

Join us for our Winter Weekend: February 18-19, 2017

Discover the magic of winter in Killarney during the Family Day weekend. Glide along cross country ski trails or take a guided snowshoe hike. In the evening, enjoy star-gazing from the Park observatory and a featured presentation by professional explorer and adventurer, Adam Shoalts. Visit our website for more details.
Research in the Park: Citizen Science Project

This winter, pick up a wolf sample collection pack at the Park office. By helping us collect wolf samples (e.g. hair, scat, blood, urine), you will greatly benefit the Eastern Wolf Study. The information your samples provide may help protect Killarney’s Eastern Wolf population.

Congratulations to researcher, Linda Rutledge, and her colleagues on publishing a research paper that sheds new light on the debate over wolf conservation in eastern North America. We look forward to continuing to fund this ongoing work.
And the winner is...

Congratulations to our 2016 raffle winners: G. Driscoll (16ft. Nova Craft Canoe); K.Enter (Jim Morlock Landscape Painting); and T. Cronin (Jon Butler Framed Nature Photograph).

In total, we raised $3,000 to support research and education projects in the Park. Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket and special thanks to Nova Craft CanoeJim Morlock and Jon Butler for their generous prize donations.
Winter wildlife in the Park
Thanks to our friend, Gaby Gardener, for sharing these beautiful photos of some of our furry and feathered friends in the Park during the winter months. Learn more about how you can help preserve the full diversity of habitats for these species by protecting the Park and its ecosystem.
