News from the Friends of Killarney Park
The legacy of Bryan and Peter
Thanks to your generous donations in memory of Bryan Maher and Peter Surey, we recently funded a floating dock at the Silver Peak trailhead on Bell Lake. Bryan and Peter were both passionate and dedicated supporters of the Friends and our efforts to protect Killarney Provincial Park. With the growing popularity of the Silver Peak hike, the new dock will allow for safe access to the trail and reduce the impact on the natural environment.

Summer highlights

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our summer events and programs. We had another great season. Here are some of the highlights...
Artist in Residence program
More than 300 Park visitors connected with nature by attending free art lessons in the Park during four weeks of instruction from July to September. Special thanks to this year's volunteer artists: David Doyle, Danielle Gardner, Pierre Sabourin and Christy A. Smith.
Emerging Artist Mentorship program
This summer, we welcomed our first ever emerging artist, Lydia Gaudreau who spent five days in the Park camping and being mentored by en plein air artist in residence, Christy A. Smith. Here’s what Lydia had to say about the experience:
“I will forever remember the new friends I've made, the lessons I've learned and the astounding history stories about the Group of Seven that were shared around the campfire!...Like the foliage throughout the park in September, within days I've transformed into a completely different artist and I wish I could find the words to express how grateful and fortunate I am to have to been chosen for this incredible opportunity."
Close to 400 art lovers joined us at the annual art show and sale in late July. Twelve talented artists shared the beauty of the landscape of Killarney and nature's wild spaces through their inspired works.

This year, for the first time we also hosted a live "en plein air" painting demonstration at the Killarney Mountain Lodge on the Friday before the Art Show. Visitors saw the artists in action as they captured Killarney's magical landscape through art. Thanks to our featured artists: Danielle Gardner, David Doyle and Jim Morlock.
Summer Concert Series
Park visitors were treated to live music at the Park's amphitheatre with special performances by Ian Reid, Murray James O’Brien, David Leask, David Archibald and Whiskey Jack in July and August.
Save the date for our annual Winter Weekend on February 17-18, 2018 and discover the beauty of winter in Killarney. Stay tuned for more details.
