Stay Cool & Hydrated this summer with these amazing tips and recipes! 
There is nothing like warm weather and sunshine! With the summer months full in swing, it is the perfect time to get outdoors for some recreational hiking, biking, swimming, yoga etc.! It creates the opportunity to explore nature and all is has to offer. But remember, excessive heat exposure can cause dehydration, which in turn can cause dangerous conditions like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
So get outdoors, but remember to stay hydrated and refreshed; enjoying the sun at a gradual pace.

HYDRATION STATION!

Deliciously RAW Beverages By Ilaria Gaynor 

There is nothing better on a hot summer day then an icy cold beverage! Keep your palate refreshed by adding natural flavors to your water.

TIP:Try adding lemon, cucumber, fresh fruit or mint to your water bottle and change it up as often as you want!



Watermelon Lemonade (Excellent for rehydration!)
  • Fill your blender with fresh watermelon
  • Place blended watermelon in ice treys and freeze.
  • Take 2 treys of frozen watermelon cubes and put back into blender
  • Add juice of 3 small lemons
  • Fill remaining space with water
  • Add sweetener if desired (I added stevia for sweetness)

    Blend & serve
Coconut Smoothie (Replenishing Electrolytes!)
 
  • 1 young coconut (meat and water)
  • 4 C spinach
  • 2 TBS Liyf Essentials
  • ½ vanilla bean
  • 1 banana
Berry Smoothie
Any time is the right time for a cultured berry smoothie! For something new, try going bite sized! Pour mixture into an ice cube tray, and freeze them overnight. Pop them out and enjoy all summer long!

Cultured Berry Smoothie
  • 1C almond coconut yogurt
  • 2 bananas
  • 1-2 C frozen mixed berries
  • 2-3 TBS Liyf Essentials
  • 2 C filtered spring water

Green juices

Now is the perfect time to BLAST into summer! The LGB is perfect for these hot summer months! AND visit your local farmers market and create your own amazing combination of parsley, spinach, kale, celery and apple!

TIP; Green juice is perfect when you grow tired of plain water. Just swap one glass for a green juice to get the refreshing sip that your body craves!

Lemon Ginger Blast
  • 1 bunch Celery
  • 3 inches  Fresh Ginger
  • 3 inches Fresh Turmeric (when available)
  • 1 handful Fresh Mint
  • 1 Peeled Lemon
  • 1 bunch  Parsley (regular or Italian)
  • 1 bunch Cilantro
  • 1 Cucumber (large)
  • 2 Apples
  • 1/2-1 Habanero or Jalapeno (full pepper for more advanced)
  • 2 bunches Spinach
  • 3 cups Water

Natural Ways to deal with a Sunburn

While we try our hardest to avoid burning our skin, sometimes it just happens. So if you find yourself a bit red, try one of these natural remedies to help soothe & repair!

  • Aloe Vera; one of the most popular remedies, the gel from this plant cools, protects, eases the burn, and speeds healing. Try use fresh cuttings from live plants whenever possible to avoid unnecessary chemical additives
     
  •  Apple Cider Vinegar: Vinegar has a cooling effect on skin as it evaporates and apple cider vinegar is packed with vitamins and minerals that speed the healing process! You can mix it into a tepid bath or mixed with equal parts water to use as a misting spray.
     
  • Cool Shower: Cool water pulls away the heat to soothe and lessen the burn.
     
  • Baking Soda: Baking soda is antiseptic and relieves itching skin. Mix some in a tepid bath or mix with cool water to form a refreshing paste that pulls out heat as the water evaporates.
     
  • Honey: Honey, while sticky, is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It can be used on cuts, abrasions, bruises, and burns to encourage healing.
     
  • Tomatoes: Slices, paste, or puree, tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. They cool and protect the skin from damage. DID YOU KNOW: The effect works even better in preventing sunburn, and not just topically! People who eat tomatoes are less prone to ultraviolet damage.
     
  • Oatmeal: Oatmeal soothes the burn and has anti-inflammatory properties that take away the pain. It can be used in a tepid bath or as a cool paste.
     
  • Avocado. Avocado is one of the most nutrient dense foods we have. It has many beneficial vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats that help rehydrate the skin and aid the healing process along. Apply it as a paste and blend it with aloe vera for even more cooling and healing power.
