Lengthening Strides is the newsletter from the
Central New York Dressage & Combined Training Association.
You're welcome to join us at our June Board Meeting
Monday, June 10, at 6 pm
Manlius Public Library

We do not have an educational series event planned this month,
but see all the events we will be hosting or co-sponsoring this summer - posted below and on our
CNYD&CTA website!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Spring Dressage Show at Tanglewood Riding Center on June 2.
It was a success! Special thanks to all of our amazing volunteers! We could not run these events without our volunteers.
We had a huge turnout and we able to run the show in two rings.

Stay tuned to
our Facebook page for photos of the event.
It's not too early to start thinking about Year-End Awards!

We've updated our award requirements and forms! Check them out on our website to make sure you meet the score requirements during the show season!
And let us know if you have any questions! #KnowBeforeYouShow

JUNIOR / YOUNG RIDER SPOTLIGHT

GRACE YOUNG is from Cazenovia, N.Y. and rides with Spruce Valley Stables. She has been riding for 7 years and her main discipline is Dressage. Grace plays an important role for CNYD&CTA — she is the Jr/Yr representative, which means she is responsible for being the Jr/Yr voice at board meetings and giving the board ideas as to what Jr/Yr want to see and do.
Grace’s pony is an 18-year-old German Riding Pony named Maestro and he is a big fan of carrots. Her favorite thing about him is how much he has taught her. Her goals are to make it to USDF Regionals for First Level in 2019, ride the best that she can and to help teach “littles” all she know about horses. Outside of horses you will find Grace at Cross-fit, playing basketball, volunteering at the barn and participating in 4-H.

If you see Grace and Maestro at a show make sure to say HI

Each month, we will feature a Rising Star Program participant in our newsletter.

Hunter Derby Clinic with Barb Lindberg
Sunday, July 28

Closing Date: Thursday, July 18

Clinic Details
The re-emergence of the Derby has revitalized Hunter divisions around the country with natural obstacles, terrain changes, and height options creating an interesting and challenging class, more fun for everyone. The Derby gives those who compete in the more traditional Hunter classes a chance to jump the type of natural obstacles found in Eventing or traditional Fox Hunting and those who compete in Eventing or participate in Fox Hunting an opportunity to try showing in a Hunter class. This clinic will prepare horses and riders for a Hunter Derby including schooling over natural obstacles on an outdoor course and learning strategies to improve your score. Participants will be grouped with those of similar skill from trot-only (18” fences) up to heights of 2’9”. During the lunch-time lecture, Ms. Lindberg will discuss the rules for Hunter Derbies and strategies for maximizing your score.
