President's Letter
Dear CNYD&CTA members and supporters,

It is great to see everyone back in action in 2021! Our membership has been growing and so has our attendance at events! I am pleased that our next clinic with Michelle Labarre is full. Auditors are still welcome.

Volunteer opportunities have been swooped up quickly!

We have been inundated with requests to volunteer at our events. We love to see everyone lending a hand, but lately positions have been filling up and we have had to turn down willing volunteers.

In an attempt to rectify scheduling of volunteers, we have named a new volunteer coordinator, Linda Matthews. She was our Spring Dressage Schooling Show manager and did a great job! Her email is volunteer@cnydcta.org.

Because we have requests for volunteering via email, phone, Instagram and Facebook to multiple board members, Linda's email will serve as the main avenue for volunteer coordination.

Please get your requests in early as things have been filling fast and volunteer hours will not be guaranteed. At this time, we would like half-day volunteer commitments and prefer that you are not riding in the event that day.

We are happy to see so many people willing to volunteer this year! We’re also thrilled about our growing membership.

See you out there,
Corrinne
president@cyndcta.org

P.S. We are currently in planning stages for an eventing clinic with Cooper Madden-Hennessey. Stay tuned for more details! And here are events that are on the calendar ...

Clinic details
Clinic entry form

This jumping clinic is for those interested in hunter derbies, eventing, fox hunting, or others wanting to learn to jump in the open over a mixture of cross country and more traditional hunter/jumper style jumps. Footing is a mixture of grass with some use of a sand arena possible should weather necessitate a change. Participants will be grouped with those of similar skill and interest from trot-only (18” fences) up to heights of 3’

Barb Lindberg, the program director of Equine Business Management at Cazenovia College since 2003, has led our popular gymnastics clinics for several years.  Read more about Barb's background which goes far beyond her work in academia, and sign up today!
A Successful Second Gymnastics Clinic in May with Barbara Lindberg at Fiddlehead Farm

This year, due to the popularity of the yearly gymnastics clinic with Barbara Lindberg, CNYD&CTA decided to host two, one in April and a second in May. The Torelli family volunteered their facility, time and energy and Barbara Lindberg returned for a repeat performance.  While, due to many other equine activities in the area, it was a shorter day than the April clinic, many of those who could not attend in April were able to participate in May. As a result, the day saw quite a few fresh faces among the 10 riders who participated.

The jumps were set as a mirror image of the placement from April, giving the repeat participants a chance to work with their horses in the opposite direction. The last group of the day did quite a few more advanced exercises, adding some interest for spectators.

Best of all, the youngest Torellis, Fiona and Finnegan, ran a lemonade stand to benefit a local charity. The lemonade tasted great after a long lesson.

A third clinic with Ms. Lindberg, this time over a course of mixed natural obstacles and show jumps, is scheduled for Sunday, July 25 at Abbey Meadows Farm, so if you missed out on the gymnastics clinics, there is another opportunity to ride with Ms. Lindberg later in the season.  All levels of horse/rider combination interested in jumping are welcome. There will be a lunch-time lecture as part of the clinic.

We look forward to seeing many of you again.

Many thanks to Ms. Lindberg, the Torelli family, and our day-long volunteer Carol Morris for supporting this fun and educational activity.

Thank you all for participating,
Amy Bittner, clinic manager/secretary

New Vaccination Requirements for CNYD&CTA Clinics and Competitions In effect as of April 21, 2021
To all members past and present, due to the encroaching spread of Equine Influenza and Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinoneumonitis), CNYD&CTA will be requiring proof of these vaccinations within six months prior to the event (along with Rabies and Coggins) for those submitting entries to CNYD&CTA clinics and/or competitions. It is recommended that vaccines be administered by a veterinarian and documentation be submitted along with the proof of Rabies vaccine and Coggins test within 1 year. In the case of vaccines administered by a person other than a veterinarian, the exhibitor should provide a receipt of the vaccine purchase signed by the owner which contains the name, serial number, and expiration date of the vaccine; and date of vaccine administration. (For all vaccination proof, paper copies are requested along with the entry form - no scans or text images.)

CNYD&CTA April 2021 Meeting Minutes
Introducing Board Member and More... AJ Torelli

AJ Torelli
is invaluable to CNYD&CTA and if this resume doesn’t prove it, ask any current or past member and you will only hear cheers and praise: Currently, AJ is the vice president of eventing, membership coordinator and print ad coordinator in addition to his regular obligations as a CNYD&CTA board member. He’s been a member of CNYD&CTA for more than 25 years and has attended board meetings for more than 20 of those years, five of them as CNYD&CTA president. For 15 years he has coordinated our membership, which includes recruitment and managing the databases, and print ads, creating and working with media contacts at various publications. He continues to help grow our membership, which is now at an all-time high, and he is focused on strengthening and expanding the eventing opportunities and activities.

A fun fact is that his mom was a member beginning in the 1970s, and his daughter and her family are active participants in CNYD&CTA events.

AJ has spent the last 20 or more years as an aspiring eventer — and he didn’t start riding until he was 45 years old! He achieved Novice Level with some measure of success and is now working his way back down with his 23-year-old 17-hand Swedish warmblood partner and, as he says, “my 70-plus-year-old body.” He assures all of us that he’s working his way up in the dressage world and says, “soon I’ll become a DK Level 2 dressage rider, look out! I’m on my way.” With this as his mantra, we have no doubt he will succeed: “Riding makes my day - every day. Horses keep me humble while immaturity keeps me young.”

AJ and Cindy (far right) love that their two grandchildren, Fiona and Finnegan, share their love for horses. Here's a family photo from the May 9 Informal at Tanglewood that includes AJ, his wife Cindy, little Fiona and Finnegan (riding) and their moms following the Lead Line class.
All members, we would love to feature your story in an upcoming newsletter and on our website. Please email "your story" to Brianna Adams and we'll feature it in one of our monthly newsletters! Be sure to include a photo or two (jpeg).
Tell us your name, your involvement with CNYD&CTA (board or member), style of riding you prefer, and about you and the horses you ride!
