Hunter Derby Clinic with Barb Lindberg
Sunday, July 28

Closing Date: Thursday, July 18

Clinic Details
The re-emergence of the Derby has revitalized Hunter divisions around the country with natural obstacles, terrain changes, and height options creating an interesting and challenging class, more fun for everyone. The Derby gives those who compete in the more traditional Hunter classes a chance to jump the type of natural obstacles found in Eventing or traditional Fox Hunting and those who compete in Eventing or participate in Fox Hunting an opportunity to try showing in a Hunter class. This clinic will prepare horses and riders for a Hunter Derby including schooling over natural obstacles on an outdoor course and learning strategies to improve your score. Participants will be grouped with those of similar skill from trot-only (18” fences) up to heights of 2’9”. During the lunch-time lecture, Ms. Lindberg will discuss the rules for Hunter Derbies and strategies for maximizing your score.

JUNIOR / YOUNG RIDER SPOTLIGHT

MEGAN CONWAY is from Chittenango, N.Y. and rides at Spruce Valley Stables on the Certainty Sales Hunter/Jumper team. She has been riding for eight years and her main discipline is Hunters. Megan is in the process of starting a small business called Certainly Sweet Treats where she makes and sells homemade horse treats. These treats are also her pony’s favorite treat!

Megan’s pony is an eight-year-old Welsh cross named Qualen’s Bally Wyck. Her favorite thing about him is his face and facial expressions. Her goal is to become confident at the Hunter shows with Bally. You will find Megan working hard at the barn or working on her business ideas.

If you see Megan and Bally at a show make sure to say HI!

Each month, we will feature a Rising Star Program participant in our newsletter.

A Look at CNYD&CTA's Busy Summer So Far!
Great Turnout at our Spring Dressage Show at Tanglewood Riding Center

CNYD&CTA cosponsored the June 2 show at Tanglewood Riding Center and two rings were needed to accommodate the many participants! Everyone had a great time, including CNYD&CTA member Marilyn "Mimi" Hall, above, on her horse Derby, and the many riders pictured below in Tanglewood's outdoor arena.

Excellent Reviews of our June Eventing Clinic

CNYD&CTA sponsored an Eventing Clinic with Anne Eilinger that was held on June 23 at CNYD&CTA member Amy Bittner’s Abbey Meadow Farm in Syracuse. There were six participants and Anne taught into the early afternoon doing Dressage lessons and jumping sessions. She was very insightful and had great feedback and ideas for all the clinic participants. There was much to be learned by both riding and auditing her clinic. Amy hosted a small lunch for everyone in her beautiful garden. A great time was had by all that attended.

A Great Day of Learning at the Show and Tell at Sundman Stables
Several riders benefitted from this non-competitive program designed as a combination show and clinic. Held on June 30 at Sundman Stables in Marcellus, N.Y., the relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere provided participants the opportunity to meet other riders and share experiences.
