$1.8 BILLION RECORD INVESTMENT IN LOCAL ROADS

Local residents and commuters in Wyndham will benefit from a huge package of road upgrade and maintenance works.

The Andrews Labor Government's $1.8 billion western package for the Outer Suburban Arterial Roads Program will combine 8 high-priority road upgrades with maintenance on more than 750 kilometres of road stretching from Werribee to Footscray.

This will improve capacity and road conditions, with 30 kilometres of duplications and intersection upgrades, including the Duncans Road interchange.

Request for Proposals for the package will go out in early 2017, with works to commence in 2018. The community will be able to provide their feedback on these projects and shape final designs.

This will cut travel times, improve road safety and better connect communities - ensuring that residents get home sooner and safer.

VICTORIAN ECONOMIC UPDATE
The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with creating jobs and growing Victoria's economy.

Since November 2014, we have created 184,000 jobs - 93,200 of them full time. Victoria's unemployment rate has fallen to 5.7%, which is the second lowest in Australia.

This is driven by a robust economy and huge investments in infrastructure, hospitals and education. Victoria's gross state product (GSP) grew by a strong 3.3% in the 2015-16 year, up from 2.6% in 2014-15 and above the national average of 2.8%.

For the last two years, the Andrews Labor Government has delivered on the things that matter most to people - growing the economy and creating more jobs.

RECORDING FUNDING TO ASSIST THE HOMELESS

The Andrews Government is providing the biggest ever response to homelessness in Victoria's history.

We will provide $109 million to intervene early and provide targeted support that helps people get back on their feet helping 19,000 people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

To support young people living out of home care, get a job or study, we will invest $10.1 million to help with housing through board payments, housing subsidies and leasing arrangements until they are 21.

A range of help across the state will be available including:
  • New accommodation and additional support in the west to help with rapid population growth and high need.
  • 120 new or developed housing units
  • New accommodation with targeted support services in the west of Melbourne
  • 30 unit supported housing for women and children
  • Accommodation for people with severe mental illness in Frankston
In addition recently expanded Rapid Housing Assistance Fund will see $24 million invested in purchasing 94 properties and leasing another 79 properties to provide stable housing for those who are experiencing homelessness
10 YEAR PLAN TO END FAMILY VIOLENCE

On average one woman is killed every week in Australia by a current or former partner. This needs to change.

The Andrews Labor Government will deliver landmark reforms to protect women and children through the implementation of a ten year plan to end family violence:
Ending Family Violence: Victoria’s Plan for Change

This program is in response to the  227 recommendations made by Australia’s first Royal Commission into Family Violence and build a new system that protects families and punishes perpetrators.

NEW  APP TO PUT PEOPLE FIRST IN EMERGENCIES

Whether it's a flood, fire or shark sighting, Victorians can now receive warnings for all emergencies through a single mobile phone app or number.

The VicEmergency app replaces the FireReady app and provides warning and incident notifications for a variety of emergencies, including storms and beach closures, not just fires.

It is monitored 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and has disaster recovery capability set up within Australia and overseas.

Victorians can download the free app from their mobile phone app store or at www.emv.vic.gov.au. For existing FireReady users, the new VicEmergency app is available as an update.

For more information before or during an emergency, phone the VicEmergency hotline 1800 226 226, visit emergency.vic.gov.au and stay tuned to your local radio.
