Seasons Greetings

It has been a big year for Wyndham.

We have had a number of infrastructure announcements, our economy is strong and our people are extraordinary.
I am so proud to represent this great community of Wyndham.

I wish you all the best for this holiday season.

Last month, we informed the community of the $109 million the Andrews Labor Government has committed to housing in Victoria.

I am pleased to announce that $15 million of this funding will go toward an investment in H3 Wyndham Alliance to help more than 1700 people doing it tough in Wyndham.

Established in 2007, the H3 Wyndham Alliance is a partnership of agencies representing health, housing and homelessness in the Western Melbourne area, bringing together different agencies to work in an integrated way.

The community of Wyndham is a high need high growth area and government assistance is required to ensure that residents can access housing. Sadly, family violence figures are unfortunately at a high rate in our community and as a cause of homelessness it is vital that families at risk are able to access the support they need.

The Andrews Labor Government has released Victoria's first ever Community Safety Statement - a plan to keep Victorians safe, prevent harm to our community and hold criminals to account.

These are not just words, but a statement of our actions. The measures outlined in our plan are backed by an additional $2 billion investment, including:
  • The recruitment of an additional 2,729 police and 100 Protective Service Officers over the next four years - the largest single police investment in Victoria Police's 163 year history.
  • $250,000 to assist Wyndham City Council upgrade facilities at Kelly Park Piazza in Werribee, which will include upgrades to the public toilet, new courtyard, footpaths and park furniture to encourage positive use of the park.
  • $10 million in Youth Crime Prevention
  • Establishing a dedicated 24-hour Police Assistance Line for non-emergency calls
  • Giving police new powers to collect DNA samples from suspected offenders and introducing new laws targeting organised crime and drive-by shootings.
The statement will be released annually to track outcomes, improve responses and ensure Victorians are kept up to date on community safety issues into the future.
North East Link
The Andrews Labor Government will finally join-up our freeway network, connecting our growing suburbs in the north, east, and south-east, and providing a direct route from the east to the airport with the North East Link.

Infrastructure Victoria has identified it as the most important new project in our transport network. It's the logical next step in this Government's rebuilding of our road and rail network.

This will mean less time in traffic, and more time with friends and family in the north, south, and east, while the Western Distributors relieves congestion in the west.

It will carry 100,000 cars a day, relieving congested freeways, slashing traffic in the north and east, and taking thousands of trucks off local roads.

Planning will get underway immediately, with $35 million to kick-start work spearheaded by a new expert North East Link Authority.

We'll do the work properly, and ensure that the Victorian people can have a say on Victoria's biggest road project.  Contracts will only be signed, and construction started, under a re-elected Andrews Labor Government.

A much-loved Victorian water safety program that teaches kids vital survival skills has returned just in time for summer. The VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program grows each and every year. Last summer, more than 9500 kids took part in water safety activities at 129 venues across the state.

It's all about providing low-cost aquatic education to help youngsters stay safe. We all love to swim, but we have to make sure we're prepared. The program  can cost as little as $30 for five days over the January holidays.

The Labor Government has provided VICSWIM with $400,000 for this year's summer program. It's our way of ensuring all Victorians are safe in the water.

Summer is finally upon us and Melbournians are being asked to do their part and put water efficiency first as part of the re-booted, world-leading Target 155 program.

With a hot and dry summer ahead of us, if everyone saved just over a bucket of water per day, this would equate to a savings of around 49 million litres of water a day - the equivalent of nearly 20 Olympic size swimming pools.

Some simple water saving tips include:
  • Taking shorter showers
  • Turning the tap off when brushing your teeth
  • Using mulch or compost in the garden to increase water absorbtion and moisture content of your soil
  • Using water-efficient appliances and installing a water-efficient showerhead
