Monday Evening Epiphany with
St. Mark Baptist and The Magi

The Central Convocation service for Epiphany will be at Saint Mark’s on January 6, at 6:30 p.m. The choir from St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock will sing at the service, along with Saint Mark’s choir and choirs from around the Central Convocation.

This service includes the traditional Procession of the Magi, as well as candlelight. The preacher will be the Rev. Philip Pointer, senior pastor of St. Mark Baptist, Bishop Benfield will be the celebrant. A festive reception will follow.

Parish Notes

Welcome, New Members! We are pleased to welcome new members to Saint Mark’s Sunday. They include: Sarah & Melissa Brown; Catherine Thomas Vest & Michael Langley; and Tuckkie Strode and her daughters, Elizabeth and Ruthie. Please help them feel welcome!

First Sunday Breakfast This Sunday, the breakfast crew will be serving up a hot and hearty breakfast in the Parish Hall from 8:45-9:15. $5 per individual, $15 per family. Visitors and new members are on the house! 
 
Plate Offering On the first Sunday of each month, all the loose, undesignated plate offerings will go to the Clergy Discretionary Fund, which allows for unbudgeted needs to be met. Please give generously.

NO Yoga Monday There will be no yoga class Monday Jan. 6. Come join us for the Epiphany celebration at 6:30! Yoga will resume on Jan. 13. 


Annual Reports Deadline Jan. 17 Saint Marks' annual meeting will be Sunday, January 26, between the 8 and 10:30 am services in the Parish Hall. Annual reports will be available at that time. If you are the chair of a committee and would like your committee's report included, please email the report to Karen Blissit. The deadline is Friday, January 17.  

Baptism The sacrament of Baptism will be offered at Saint Mark’s on Sunday, January 12. If you, or someone in your household, wish to be baptized, please contact the church office 225-4203. A rehearsal will be held at 4:00 in the church on Tuesday, January 7.

Deadline for Vestry Nominations January 12 To be eligible for a 3 year term on the Vestry, one must be a pledger of record, a confirmed Episcopalian, and able to attend the Vestry retreat on February 28-29 at Camp Mitchell. To nominate someone for the vestry, you must obtain their permission. You may also self-nominate. Nomination forms are available by contacting Karen. The slate of five nominees from vestry include: Mark Davis, Craig Douglass, Ellen Nichol, Eleanor Randolph, Patrick Spivey.

Men of Saint Mark’s Please consider participating in the next Camp Mitchell volunteer day on Saturday, January 11. Weather permitting, volunteers will meet at 9:00 a.m. at our diocesan camp and conference center on Petit Jean Mountain-about an hour’s drive from Little Rock. At this time specific projects are pending but they usually include outside clean up and repairs. Lunch is provided. Anyone interested can contact Robert Seibert or 425 9330.

The Good Book Club Back!

Starting Epiphany (Jan. 6) Saint Mark’s will be reading the Gospel of John together with the whole Episcopal Church for the season. You can find Good Book Club materials in the Narthex or at this link

Be sure to be at the Adult Forum at 9:15 January 12, in the Parish Hall for church-wide Bible study.

  • Forum (Parish Hall)  An overview of the Book of John.
  • Adults Coffee & Scriptures (Java Loft-Willcox building)  Adults are invited to gather Sunday mornings to read, discuss and apply the Sunday scriptures to their daily lives. 
  • Youth Sunday School (Parlor room off the Parish Hall) All 6th-12th graders are invited to come to Breakfast Club. We will eat some breakfast goodies, discuss the day's gospel, and check in on what's going on in our lives.
  • Children (Willcox Building) Children 3yrs-5th grade to make Bible stories, Bible people, and Bible passages a part of their lives. Back Yard Kids (3-4 year-olds) meet in the classroom next to the Children's Chapel and Deep Blue Kids (K-5th grades) meet upstairs near the Java Loft.

LifeQuest Widely recognized for its extraordinary programming, LifeQuest of Arkansas provides an infrastructure through which adults can create a more purposeful and rewarding post-retirement life, or Third Age. Adults who have intellectual curiosity, exercise, engage with a social network and give back to their community remain healthier and happier than those who do not. LifeQuest has guided thousands of Arkansans toward a healthy lifestyle since 1981. The Summer Term will be held from July 10 - August 1. Classes are held at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock. Summer Term is $35 and covers all Wednesday & Thursday classes for the entire four weeks. You may download the current class brochure and registration form below and mail your registration to LifeQuest, P.O. Eleventh Step Serenity Retreat at Camp Mitchell This retreat for active members of 12-step groups will take place Friday evening through Sunday morning, Jan. 10–12, at Camp Mitchell, on Petit Jean Mountain. Addiction Recovery Weekend for Women The Addictions Recovery Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana will hold its 2020 annual weekend for women who are or who want to be in recovery at the Solomon Episcopal Conference center outside of New Orleans on Jan. 17–19. The Rev. Joanna Seibert will be the guest speaker. Download more info.


Diocesan Convention 2020 The annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas will take place Friday, Feb. 14–Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020. All events on both days will take place at Saint Mark's. Registration will begin in January. Stay tuned for more information.

EYC  (Episcopal Youth Community for teens) Welcome back from winter break! EYC will be playing games this Wednesday, January 8. Jr high meets from 6-7:30, Sr high meets from 7-8:30, and dinner for everyone is from 7-7:30.
