In last month's newsletter I included a letter from a young lady that mentioned Hochie, a horse that has been in my family for 30 years. A few days after that newsletter came out, we lost Hochie due to complications connected to old age. He had a beautiful long life that touched the hearts of many people.
Time is a precious gift from God. How we use it is up to us.
Remember the people that have touched your heart and meant so much to you? Be sure to let those people know how much you care.
During these 15 years with Shining Stars we have had the privilege of knowing many selfless people who volunteer several days a week to make this ministry possible. Others who live far away or who can’t physically handle arena work, give sacrificially to assure we have the funding we need to continue to serve our riders with disabilities.
Parents and caregivers live daily just to make sure their children are cared for around the clock.
We want to thank you who follow our mission, who pray for us, volunteer and financially support us. YOU are also a precious gift from God.
Ps 18:25 (TPT) “Lord, it is clear to me now
that how we live will dictate how you deal with us.
Good people will taste your goodness Lord,
and to those who are loyal to you,
you love to prove that you are loyal and true.”

Our appreciation is extended to all the volunteers that came out to help for the event. Some of them also got to participate in the tournament!

2019 Capital Campaign
Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program (SSTR) is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to provide a means of therapy using horses to help people with disabilities.
SSTR is celebrating its 15th year in equine therapy. We currently have over 200 participants, 207 volunteers and 16 horses.
Our programs include:
Cart driving for students and seniors unable to get on the back of a horse
Summer Horse Camps for foster kids and single parent families
Saturday Night Respite (care givers get a 2 hour break while we enjoy the kids)
Stars & Stripes veterans’ program……and more.
OUR FUTURE GOAL
Many people are familiar with the indoor Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) located on York Rd in Gettysburg, but are not aware that the horses cannot be housed there because of zoning regulations. Our horses live on a farm 6 miles from the TLC and are hauled to classes each day. The farm has a 13 stall barn, 4 separate fields, a run-in shed, an outdoor arena, and a house for the stable manager/director to live in plus rooms for offices. This is where we hold Summer Horse Camps, training, cart lessons, and Equine Biology classes.
The current owners are planning to retire soon and must sell the farm, giving SSTR first option to buy. The purchase of this farm will give us a permanent home for our horses and the ability to continue the additional programs mentioned for generations to come.
THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
In order to acquire such a purchase SSTR is looking for “Legacy Givers”. Individuals willing to sow into our special needs community to assure these therapies will be available to them in the future.
Each Legacy Giver would donate $1200.00 and will have a plaque placed in the TLC to commemorate their part in making this mission possible and to keep their legacy alive!
Volunteers Are Special The Heart & Hands of Our Programs...
Thank You For Serving Shining Stars!
Members of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, Gettysburg ward, did a service project at the SSTM farm recently to clean stables, mulch, and paint fence posts. The energetic, hardworking team accomplished a ton of work in a few hours. "Serving others brings us great joy," said Bishop Jeff Eakins. "We are grateful to be part of this community and wish to serve when and where we can," Eakins said. Shining Stars is so very grateful to this wonderful group for their heartfelt work session at the farm!

New Items Needed for Silent Auction
Planning is under way for the 2019 Annual Silent Auction to be held October 4th. We are accepting new items to be auctioned off at the event. If you are a representative for businesses such as; Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Norwex, etc. would you consider donating a gift basket for this event? WHAT’S ALL THIS BUZZ ABOUT
A “GIVING SPREE?”
Each November SSTM is privileged to be accepted as a participant in the Adams County Community Foundation's "Giving Spree" event
held at the Gettysburg Middle School.
Every year donations from this exhibition continue to increase
and local non-profits are blessed. ACCF goals for 2019 Giving Spree
total donations are to reach a million dollars!
Eighty local organizations are expected to participate.
Last year the top organization reached $63,000 in donations! SSTM received nearly $6,000. WANT TO HELP SHINING STARS DOUBLE THAT IN 2019??
IF SO, PLEASE READ THE "BASICS & BIGGER STUFF!!"
The 2019 Giving Spree is centered on a three hour gathering, with exhibits, refreshments, lots of energy, fun & fellowship. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO COME!
Held at the Gettysburg Area Middle School on November 7, 2019 from 4pm to 7pm, the Community Foundation expects over 1,100 attendees to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars for 83 local nonprofits, including
Shining Stars Therapeutic Ministries! OK. That’s the basics. If you’re ready for bigger stuff, read on!
So the bigger stuff actually comes from multiplied efforts. Right now what is needed is for you to SHARE information
on the Giving Spree with all your contacts, friends, co-workers & family. Any time you are on FB and see a
Shining Stars Giving Spree post, share it!
If you have a heart for the purpose of Shining Stars Therapeutic Ministries, talk about us and
promote the Giving Spree.
Word of mouth and testimonies are very valuable resources to us,
since SSTM does very little paid advertising.
Next month, we will give more specific info on
how donors can give for the Giving Spree. And best of all with the “bigger stuff,” is that in August we will begin
a weekly FaceBook series of student/family testimonies.
The “Why I Love Shining Stars” articles will be a great way to share with others,
first hand, how beneficial our programs are to the community!
And hopefully, will inspire many to contribute to our cause. So please, please, remember to SHARE those posts with all! More next month, so stay with it!
