I’m always intrigued with the fact that God cares about everything that concerns us--our families, our homes, our finances, our jobs, and even our animals.
Shining Stars has 16 wonderful horses. These horses must be faithful, gentle, and patient beyond belief in order to serve the precious children and adults God brings into our ministry. For every ten horses we are offered as a donation or we inquire as a purchase, one animal might be suitable to do the job required of them in our arenas.
These 4-footed volunteers are loved and well cared for. Several have worked here for many years. Retirement is not far off and they have faithfully earned a life of rest. Within the next 2 years, we estimate that 5 horses from our herd will be ready for full time pasture life. Recent experience has taught us that the safest place for the horses to retire is right here with us.
At this year's Silent Auction we plan to launch a Capital Campaign that will help us purchase our own farm for all the horses, and establish a permanent home for the future of Shining Stars as an addition to the indoor arena.
I hope you will plan to attend the silent auction and be part of the great things God is doing to build and equip his Kingdom
"Carefully determine what pleases the Lord."
Advance ticket purchase for the auction is required--get yours now by calling Maggie Strous at 717-321-5981.
Shining Stars All Around
NOW HEAR THIS, NOW HEAR THIS ! ATTEN - SHUN !
With Respect, Sgt. Vincent Umstot
A great season of comradeship, while learning and growing with horsemanship is coming to a close. Stars & Stripes Veterans program will finish its 2018 season with a bang! On September 22nd we will gather as military brothers & sisters at our family picnic! As always, all Veterans and their families are welcome to join us for a day together just "horse'in around" !
We will have ponies for the children, Miss Lynn & Cy will take us for relaxing carriage rides, and our experienced riders can enjoy a trail ride. Miss Maggie and her squad will prepare a picnic lunch, and you may certainly bring a dish to round out the fare if you like. So please plan to join in the fun ! Formation is at 10:00 hours-- please pray for good weather. However, rain or shine, we "march on", and "adapt & overcome" !
Our 3rd Community Aid Bin Supports SSTM
SSTM is happy to report that a Community Aid Bin has been placed in the SSTM arena. Look for the sign and the small box, waiting for clothing donations from parents, volunteers or anyone else. Our two other bins are located at :
TNT Storage Sheds, Inc., 6655 Old Harrisburg Rd., York Springs, PA and Freedom Valley at Spring Grove.
Community Aid gives a monetary donation each time someone puts clothing/shoes in our bins. So PITCH IN to our bin when you are cleaning out your closets! Community Aid is well known for their generous support of many local non-profit organizations...in the past, they have blessed SS with over $8000.00 in grant money for improvements at the indoor arena and the horse farm.
THANK YOU all 5K Runners!!
By Brandy Crago, SSTM Executive Director
A big THANK YOU goes out to the York Springs 150th Celebration for sponsoring a 5K fun run & walk for the benefit of SSTM! Our own Freedom Valley champ, Lorrie Redding, whose son was once a student in the horsemanship program, took a high award for her running ability. Congratulations, Lorrie! YOU are amazing. And Thank You, all runners, volunteers and York Springs 150th committees! It was wonderful.
Gettysburg Riding Club Benefit Show
By Karen Bowling, SSTM Newsletter Editor
Saturday, October 13 is the rescheduled date for the Annual Gettysburg Riding Club's Benefit Horse Show. This is a great local show which gives some of our Shining Stars students the opportunity to ride in several events in public.
All are welcome to come on over to the Alice & Kennie Foust Equestrian Park, 102 Hounds Run, Gettysburg, PA to enjoy the horse activities & watch our students (and many other riders!) perform. Bring a chair! The show begins at 9am and can run until 3 or 4pm if there are alot of riders. The Shining Stars students' events are usually completed by noontime. Our faithful friend, the Gettysburg Riding Club, donates proceeds to Shining Stars.

The Heart & Hands of Our Programs
Summer Horse Camp Builds Confidence
By Terry Mandel Leibrock, SSTM Volunteer
One of best experiences that I had while volunteering at the camp was watching the kids achieve self confidence. One boy who was so afraid to ride had to have his hand held. After a few days he sat up tall and said, “Today I’m brave!” He rode without his hand held. It’s heart warming to see their smiles when they achieve something .
Mark your calendars...
PIPPINFEST YARD SALE
SSTM is having a yard sale during Pippinfest, Friday Sept. 28 and Saturday Sept. 29, at 11 Jacks Mt. Rd.

they can be dropped off at the arena before Sept. 27.
Shining Stars is grateful to be participating again in Adams County's Giving Spree on Thursday Nov. 8. Donors coming to the event will find over 75 non-profit displays and a festive atmosphere. And the "piggy banks" will be back on all the display tables, ready to gobble up those gold coins!
