Shining Stars exists to embrace our community with hope and unconditional love by serving individuals with special needs so that they may develop strength, build confidence, and achieve goals. At Shining Stars, families get the therapy they need from the horses they love.
New Growth is on the Horizon!
From The Director's Saddle...
By Brandy Crago, SSTM Executive Director
One of the things I enjoy most during the riding break is meeting with parents and caregivers to discuss goals for their riders. This is a briefing process that will help instructors know how to structure lessons so that individual riders can receive the best therapy for their particular needs.
I always find myself encouraged by the testimonies of families returning to Shining Stars. We ask parents to offer feedback and help us identify areas they feel we do well in our lessons and ways they feel we could improve with their rider. All feedback is needed and appreciated.
2020 begins a new year AND a new decade. My prayer is that we cherish the time God has given us. Sixteen years of serving our community with therapeutic horsemanship programs has been incredible.
I believe God has great plans for the future of Shining Stars! May we always be sensitive to those plans and respond with a heart of gratitude.
“Not to us O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory. Because of your unfailing love and faithfulness.”
New Year, New and Returning Volunteers!
The arena was packed out with new and returning volunteers who came for the info session and hands on training. We held two volunteer training sessions for the 2020 riding session this Spring. It was wonderful to see new and returning faces after a winter off from classes. Spring means Chocolate Eggs!
Hard to believe that Easter is coming up soon. And that means for Shining Stars, preparations for our annual chocolate Easter egg fundraiser are in the works. You may have received a letter and an order form to sell the eggs. The letter also includes information on how to donate your culinary skills or food items. If you did not receive one, you may contact Maggie at 717-321-5981. Last year, we made over 500 dozen eggs. We need your help this year to make this fundraiser a success again. Plus we have a lot of fun making them and even get to do some taste testing. Orders are due by March 1 - so contact us soon if you are interested. Thanks so much in advance for all the help and support! ~Deanna Hyser- Fundraising Team~

Equine Spotlight-Honoring Tig
It was a sad day for everyone at Shining Stars when we had to unexpectedly say goodbye to our driving horse "Tig" in December. We were thankful to have Tig with us for so long. He brought such joy to students and volunteers-he will be greatly missed. We are now in search of another horse for the driving program with the temperament and attitude of a therapy horse. Preferably drives and rides. If you know of a horse that might fit in our program please call Brandy Crago at 717-398-8327.
