Mentors and Mentees Needed!

In September, we announced the continuation of our Erase the Wait mentorship program to promote living kidney donation. Now we are nearing the start of our training for waitlisted kidney patients. This training will take place in early December and will prepare patients to be matched with a trained mentor. Through the training, patients will learn more about living donation as a treatment option and strategies to use in the search for a living donor. At the end of the training, they will be matched with a mentor who went through a comprehensive training about current information on kidney disease and living donation. By training a new group of patient mentees, we will be able to re-engage our dedicated volunteer mentors with people who will benefit from their knowledge and lived experience.

If you are currently waitlisted for a kidney transplant or know someone who is, please let them know about this opportunity. We need to hear from interested participants by November 21st. Please contact Arcadia Trueheart at truehear@ohsu.edu or (503) 418-4035.

Be part of the 2017 Threads of Life Quilt

Ordinary people with extraordinary stories of inspiration, hope and courage create quilt squares as a means of sharing their story and spreading the word about the critical need for and benefits of organ, eye, and tissue donation.

From now until March 10, you have an opportunity to submit a quilt square for the 2017 Threads of Life quilt. The quilt is dedicated to the memory of those who gave the gift of life, sight and mobility, but they also celebrate the lives of transplant recipients and offer hope to those awaiting transplant.  Each quilt is comprised of individually-designed squares created by people touched by organ, eye, and tissue donation.

The quilts are not only a beautiful and inspiring tribute, but also serve as a thought-provoking testament to the fact that organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation transform lives.

If you are inexperienced in sewing, please know that DLNW staff can assist you in creating your square with our volunteer quilter or using photos to print onto fabric. To know more, please email Matt at webbema@ohsu.edu.
