DLNW Volunteer in the News!

“If I can change one person’s mind about organ and tissue donation, I have honored both of my donors.” ~Tracy Hoyle
Did you see KGW's wonderful profile on DLNW volunteer Tracy Hoyle? Our volunteer and friend Tracy is 110% unstoppable! After two heart transplants and a kidney transplant, she's still going strong, telling everybody how important it is to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Thanks to Tracy for telling your story! And thanks to KGW-TV for sharing it!

April is National Donate Life Month

April is National Donate Life Month, a 30-day celebration of local, regional, and national activities to help encourage individuals to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. We have a number of ways you can participate and make LIFE possible! Here are some of the exciting things we’re working on!
  • We are hosting two “Threads of Life” quilt unveilings -- one on April 10 in Medford (RSVP) and another on April 23 in Salem (RSVP).
  • The Morrison Bridge in Portland will be lit in blue and green to celebrate donation on Tuesday evening, April 12!
Celebrate Blue and Green Day on Friday April 15, when the public is encouraged to wear blue and green, all in an effort to spread awareness about donation.  As an added bonus, if you submit a photo of your blue and green flair to Donate Life America’s Facebook page, you could win a $100 Amazon Gift Card!  For more ways to participate, visit

Bon Voyage, Val!

Valerie Egan has been an integral part of our Donate Life Northwest family for more than four years. While we congratulate her on an exciting new opportunity in the arts, we will miss her dedication and thoughtful innovation. In her previous role as outreach and education coordinator, Val pioneered new programs, developed a culture of volunteerism and was the driving force in creating the award-winning Go Recycle Yourself curriculum. As development coordinator, she has been inspiring financial support for lifesaving programs, managing complex events and engaging our community in development initiatives—including this year’s launch of Tabor Trot team and individual fundraising. We know Val will continue to enrich our communities as she works to inspire support for arts and culture.

It is with sad hearts that we tell you of the passing of our long-time volunteer and friend, Gerry. His heart transplant extended his life more than 25 years, and we were fortunate to get to know and work with him during those years. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Jutta, and the rest of their family.

A celebration of Gerry's life will be held at the MAC in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, May 1 at 4:00 PM. All members of the donation/transplantation community are encouraged to attend!

For more about Gerry, please see this wonderful video clip of his interview from last fall:
