COVID-19 Update

MARINElife is continually monitoring the NHS medical advice and the UK Government response to the outbreak of COVID-19 across the UK. We have therefore updated our position as of 15th March 2020.

We have a duty of care to our volunteers and event attendees and a responsibility to play our part in containing the virus. As a precautionary measure, it has been decided by the Board of Trustees to cancel ALL ACTIVITIES WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT UNTIL 30TH JUNE 2020. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes all talks, training sessions, face-to-face meetings, and surveys.

Any immediate survey related queries should be directed to info@marine-life.org.uk. Updates regarding the MARINElife position will be provided as the situation progresses.

Our policy is that we (as a minimum) follow the advice issued by the NHS (and NHS Scotland) which can be found at:

NHS DIRECT at: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

NHS INFORM SCOTLAND at: https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19

Many thanks for your co-operation and understanding.

Board of Trustees, MARINElife

Training Days

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 situation, we’ve had to cancel another one of our upcoming training days. As things stand, our next scheduled course day will be in August, but keep checking our social media pages and website for updates.

• 1st August with Cumbria WLT
• 13th September with Devon WLT
• 19th September with Northumberland WLT

We look forward to seeing an enthusiastic group soon for an interesting and informative day learning all about conducting marine mammal and seabird surveys.

Please keep an eye on our social media accounts and website for further updates.

2.6 Challenge

A big thank you to everyone who supported MARINElife through the 2.6 Challenge and helped raise us some much-needed funds to help us during these unprecedented times.

You can see some of what are fab supporters got up for their challenges over on our Facebook page. And if you would still like to support us, you can make a one-off donation via our Virgin Money Giving page!

Prudential RideLondon

We still have charity rider places available for this year's Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 that's scheduled to go ahead on Sunday 16th August!

Whether you're an enthusiastic cyclist, or you just fancy giving yourself a challenge, you have time to book your place and help support MARINElife by raising donations.

If you want to give it a go, email alex.denny@marine-life.org.uk for more information.

March Sightings

March saw the start of the UK lockdown, which sadly meant the start of a temporary pause in marine surveys. However, a few of our volunteers managed to get out to sea at the start of the month to undertake our important research.

Our surveyors got to see plenty of marine mammals, including Common Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, and Harbour Porpoise, plus plenty of busy seabirds. The Tilbury-Helsingborg/Malmo-Gdynia researcher had the added spectacle of a couple of tall ships and some Russian warships! Just goes to show, you never know what you’re going to see when going out on one of our surveys!

Read about all our surveys over on our website.
