   Farmer's Market

Dear BIA Members,

We are pleased to announce that there will be a Farmer's Market in Downtown at Centennial Square every Saturday, 8am - 2pm, from June 6 - Oct 31!  This is a Town of Oakville initiative as a part of their plans to strengthen Downtown's presence as a cultural hub, in advance of the build of the new theatre/gallery/library facilities.

There are opportunities for BIA Members to get involved!

To be involved you must apply by May 14th, 2015

The Farmer's Market will be a food-based market (i.e. no arts & crafts), highlighting farm-fresh produce and related items (baked goods, specialty foods, etc). Examples of who may wish to participate include:
  • Grocery
  • Bakeries
  • Specialty food shops
  • Florist
Products for sale must be either farmed or produced locally (for example, baked or made locally, Ontario produce/flowers, etc).  This list of businesses is not meant to be exhaustive - if you have product (either as a part of your business or as an individual) that meets the guidelines, please feel free to apply!

The market will be set up at Centennial Square and along Navy Street, which will be closed to traffic.  The Town is looking to include cultural elements at the market such as musical entertainment, artistic installations, etc.  Details to follow on how to get involved in this capacity.

We have heard from several residents and visitors on their desire for a market Downtown.  While the town and BIA will be helping to promote the market, we kindly ask that you also help spread the word of this new initiative, as we all know that word of mouth is the best marketing!

To be involved you must apply by May 14th, 2015

More details on requirements and the application can be found here.  If link does not work please email the BIA and we will send you the forms.

Why might you consider getting involved?

1. Good marketing value - the cost of a stall (options are monthly, half season, full season) is equivalent to a 1/2 page newspaper ad or less, for high visibility by those visiting the market.  Small businesses with limited staffing could have fun with it, by placing a 'Find us at the market' sign on their brick & mortar location during market hours to avoid duplicate staffing costs to help keep costs reasonable

2. Good for off-Lakeshore businesses to gain some visibility - can remind customers "we're here 7-days a week, at our regular location, located at..."

3. Opportunity to highlight a few specific items that you may be introducing as new or feature products

4. Low cost option to have a secondary location to garner attention from customers who may, out of habit or otherwise, not frequent your area of the Downtown often, but will once they discover you!

What if I don't qualify to have a stall - how do I get involved?

1. Stay tuned for opportunities to be involved with the cultural programming and pop-up events!

2. You may wish to send notification out to your customers to let them know of the Farmer's Market - helping to give them more reasons to come downtown

3. You may wish to consider 'partnering' with your fellow BIA members who are renting market space such that you can help co-promote each other

4. You may wish to offer a 'market day' promotion whereby those who shop at the market get a special promotion if they also stop by your store - this could be a small gift with purchase, free 'add-on' service, 5% off sale item, or other, giving them a fun reason to pop by your store after their visit to the market.  The BIA could post your offer on our promotions page - simply send us your promotions and we'll put them up! (this holds true for any of your promotions!)

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the BIA.  Please note that this is a Town initiative, and will be managed by Maple Greenhouses, so we may direct you to contact either of them if we don't have the answers you're looking for.

Thank you,
