Scam Alert: Delivery for your neighbour
Dear BIA members,
The BIA was notified of a scam in downtown Oakville and we want to keep you informed.
A retail business in downtown Oakville received a call from a man who said he was their neighbour (gave the correct name) and explained that there was a delivery expected before he could get into his business. There was a cost of $180 dollars to accept the package and the man asked if they would please pay, take in the package for their neighbour and he would settle up with us when he got in later in the day. The man mentioned that he had tried another neighbour (and called her by name) from next door but she wasn't in. The business who received the call paid a courier for the package and according to the business, everyone looked legit. The business called her neighbour later in the day to let him know they had a package for him and he said he had never made a call and didn't know what she was talking about. When the package was opened, it was filled with real estate magazines.
