Tip: It's All About Your Thoughts...

So if you've been following me for any amount of time at all, you know that I'm all about mindfulness, and at the root of mindfulness is being in the present moment.

And, right now during the pandemic, this is taking on a whole new meaning, and let me spell this out for you:

Ask yourself right now, in this moment, "How am I doing?" (Go ahead, and ask yourself...)

Generally speaking, you are likely to be doing okay in this moment (within a range, of course...).

Now if I were to ask you, "How do you think you're going to get by if we need to be in shelter-in-place for another 6 weeks?"

It's likely that that thought has brought up anxiety: racing thoughts of "what if..." and "how much longer can I do this?" and overwhelming emotions of sadness, fear, loneliness, and lastly you'd likely experience sensations in your body such as pit in the stomach, tightness in the chest, constriction of your throat, racing heart...

So, what changed from one moment ago to now? It was the thought of the future.

Prior to having the thought of the unknowns you were feeling okay, but when the thought came in, everything changed.

This is the best way to highlight why being in the present moment is the way to stay happy, peaceful and calm, and how the wandering mind affects us in the present.

And even if the present moment is hard and challenging, remember that you are breathing and that you are already getting through what you didn't think you could get through.

Today is yesterday's tomorrow, so remember that the future isn't often as bad as you're anticipating.

Typically, it can easy for someone to make lots of assumptions about another person’s experience of depression or anxiety. Let’s consider […]

A big piece of my work is my story –I have Journeyed Forward, and I am a living example of the tools I teach, so I know that not only do the tools that I teach work, but that change and growth is possible. Happiness is attainable!
