Tip: Let's do THE WORK
Following last week's tip of looking at our fears with more clarity, I want to give you one of my favorite tools for helping you challenge your thoughts.
This is based on the work of Byron Katie, which she calls this The Work. It is something that we all need to do to get out of our own way, to stop believing our thoughts, and ultimately feel happy, free and present.
So, next time you get stuck in believing your thoughts, here are 4 questions to ask yourself (and some examples to demonstrate it)...Let's go with the example of the thought: "What if something bad happens...??????"
1. Is it true? "Well, it feels true!"
2. How do you know it to be true? "Well, I actually don't know it to be true for certain."
3. How do you feel when you believe it to be true? "When I believe the thought 'what if something bad happens', I feel anxious, scared, sick to my stomach, nervous, not present, fearful..."
4. Who would you be without the thought? "Without the thought, 'what if something bad happens?' I would feel free, more present, calmer, less worried or anxious, no pit in my stomach, be able to sleep better, have greater clarity in my decision-making..."
Get the point? Try it! It really helps!!
Slow down look, at your thoughts and feel the freedom that follows :)
