Tip: Stop Throwing So Many Darts at Yourself

There’s a Buddhist notion of the 1st dart and 2nd dart.

The 1st dart is just what life throws at you. It’s the curve balls; the things you didn’t expect or want. It’s the twists and turns that are just part of life. It’s the shit that happens. 

The 2nd dart - and all the subsequent darts thereafter - are all the ones you throw at yourself. 

The 2nd darts are you asking “Why me?” “Why this?” “Why now?”

The 2nd darts are your judgments. Your feeling of insecurity or lack of self-worth. They are your unskillful patterns that keep you stuck. They are you perpetuating the same dysfunctional decision making or relationships. They are self-inflicted.

Where does the true suffering come from???

...the 2nd darts.

So when life throws you the shit you don’t want, don’t like, or don’t have time for, be aware and mindful of how you respond to them, and be honest and self-compassionate with yourself in asking how you are making this situation better or worse.

How you respond makes all the difference in the world.
