Happy Monday and Happy Fall!!

I don't know about you, but I love this time of the year. For me, this season represents soup, sweaters, cozy nights and cool mornings. The air is crisp and clean, and change is definitely in the air.

October is National Emotional Wellness Month, and here are 3 top things that you can do this month to increase your emotional wellness.
  1. Slow Down - Let this season be the reminder to cozy up with a book, drink a cup of tea, stay in bed a bit longer, breathe, rest, and renew. You don't need to get it all done at this moment...give yourself permission to slow down and breathe.
  2. Practice Self-Compassion - Kristin Neff, leading researcher on self-compassion, describes the 3 components of what make up a self-compassion practice...
    • Common Humanity - you are unique, but you're problems are not. Whatever you are experiencing is part of being human.
    • Mindfulness - allow and accept, without resistance, denial or judgement, what's arising in the present moment. The more you can accept things as they are, the happier you'll be.
    • Kindness - treat yourself like your own best friend, including changing the tone of your loud inner critic.
  3. Let Go of What You No Longer Need to Carry - the trees let go of their leaves in order to allow new growth to blossom, and you can do the same. Release whatever is in your way of allowing you to be who and what you're meant to be.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, #93545 and founder of the Bay Area Mindfulness and Therapy Center, in Northern California. I host  JOURNEY FORWARD WITH JOREE ROSE, the podcast, offer online courses in mindfulness and meditation, works with people 1:1 (both virtually and in-person) and leads retreats around the world.
