The leader in LED technology
Fall 2016

plugged in with the prez

Fall has arrived, but my mind lingers on summer and the Rio Olympics. Whether or not they won medals, the talent and teamwork of those elite athletes won our hearts. They are true leaders of their sports and their countries, prompting me to ask: What does it really mean to be a leader—in any arena?

Well, we expect leaders to be very good at what they do. Leaders stay ahead of the pack by always pushing themselves to improve. Leaders remain on the cutting edge, and never settle for outcomes that are just “okay.” Impressive on their own, leaders function even better as a team, with a gift for inspiring excellence in others.

Here at Thayer, our slogan is “The Leader in LED Technology.” That’s not marketing speak…it’s a commitment to providing customers the best service, products and value. Like those athletes in Rio, our team is constantly improving through training and hard work, and we won’t settle for less than 100% satisfaction.

With leadership also comes responsibility. After colliding in the women’s 5,000-meter qualifier, two runners from different countries helped each other cross the finish line. We local businesses have a duty to help each other succeed, too.

To this end, Thayer is pleased to announce the launch of our educational blog series: “Bright Ideas.” We’ll offer free articles by our experts on lighting dos and don’ts to help your business save money, avoid scams and shine on!

customers gather to lunch and learn

Crowds of customers curious about cutting-edge technology came out to the RAB Rally, hosted recently by Thayer Lighting. Our friends from RAB Lighting were on site with their Mobile Training Center, providing education on:
  • LED technology and lifespan
  • Energy savings and payback
  • Color temperature
  • Thermal management
  • Color rendering—and more
RAB Rally attendees enjoyed lunch, networking, door prizes, and special pricing on selected fixtures. A highlight of the event was a demonstration of RAB’s new Lightcloud™ wireless lighting control system, seen here.

If you missed the Rally, no worries—we’ll be partnering with RAB again at special events in the near future! Watch your email for information and “like” us on Facebook for up-to-the-minute news.

no denying the LED difference

Here’s a first: A before-and-after project shown in just one shot! Thayer updated the north parking lot of Fairview Shopping Center in Rockford with bright white, energy-saving LEDs.

Next up, the yellow-hued south lot will get an LED makeover. Stay tuned for the results of this impressive transformation in progress!

beware of drop-in energy solicitors

Thayer Lighting and our friends at Rock River Energy advise against engaging with pushy “electric suppliers” who are going door-to-door and hitting the phones, both in the workplace and at home. Implying that they are associated with a big utility company, these drop-in solicitors demand to review your bills and promise bogus discounts on energy and delivery rates. In many cases, they flash official-looking logos and use argumentative, bullying tactics to obtain your account information. And they hate to take no for an answer!

Most cities including Rockford have a permit ordinance; if a solicitor cannot show you a legitimate city permit, call the police non-emergency line. Not only is this activity against the law, unknowing customers are being subjected to termination fees for breaking contracts with their present energy suppliers.

If you receive a sketchy energy solicitation or a supplier “switch letter,” Thayer is here to help answer your questions. Give us a call at 815-282-1112.
