The Thayer Advantage

Several on our team attended some recent continuing education programs conducted by the Rockford Chamber. One of those meetings featured speaker Patrick Lencioni, who spoke on the importance of organizational health.

Thayer attendees came away from the meetings impressed. They were able to share their thoughts so freely about the importance of organizational health, that I thought it important to challenge my team. I wanted to take the next step.

Since part of my team drew such inspiration from Lencioni’s presentation, I decided to have the whole team pick up his book The Advantage, and to further discuss their thoughts on Organizational Health.

The group was asked to read the first 71 pages of The Advantage, covering Discipline 1: Build a Cohesive Leadership Team, and then to meet and discuss their thoughts.

When we got together, our discussion was impactful as it started a thought process. One member said “it helped them to think about the importance of trust and what it really meant.” During this discussion, I realized that allowing myself to be "Vulnerable" and share with the group was difficult. The unbelievable thing was, I realized, I had not shared some of these thoughts with my own kids, who are now grown. The narrative allowed me to think more about who I am and understand myself better. It helped me to understand my makeup better and why I respond or react the way I do. The whole experience was truly powerful.

Bright Lights in our Community

Kids Around the World is a non-for-profit organization founded in 1994. KATW’s goal was originally to provide safe play equipment for children that found themselves in situations where it was difficult to just be a “kid.” Since then, the organization has expanded to not only providing playgrounds and play equipment for children, but also supplying food to those in need and equipping adults with the skills necessary to teach and spread the Gospel of Christ. As a non-for-profit, KATW is always looking for donations that help support the ongoing effort to provide relief for children all over the world.
