Meet the Yousef Family this Sunday, November 20

This Sunday, Nov 20, we will have some very special guests: our two sponsored Kurdish families, the Alissos (who arrived four years ago),  and the Yousefs (who arrived a year ago).  It’s about time we met the new family and they met us, so they will join us on the 20th after worship over coffee, tea, pop, and cake.

The picture shows Yousef family the day they arrived in Halifax on Nov 21,
2021: Dad Abdul Ghani, Mom Jihan (who is a sister of Hamida’s), and their
three children: Hasan (9 years old), Helen (7) and Besir (3). Please join us!

If you'd like to continue to help us support the Yousef family financially,
donations can be made by cheque to St. John's United Church or e-transfer to

donations@stjohnsunited.com.

Please reach out to Hilda Power should you have any questions or suggestions.

Partnerships

Now that we're settling into our new church space, the Board will be exploring ways and resources to create strategic partnerships that would benefit our new neighbourhood. We have formed a small group that will take the lead on this; currently Liz, Annika and Hubert are part of this, and we are looking for two more people.

The purpose is to connect with fitting local community stakeholders, explore what kind of community initiatives we might develop, and how it might be funded. The goal is to articulate a basic plan before this summer, so it would be a relatively short commitment.

If you think this is something you’d like to be part of, please let Hubert or Annika know. Thank you for considering!

Join us for a short online service every Thursday at 8:00 am. Music, readings, prayers and 10 minutes of silent meditation; and then some conversation if you have the time. Everyone is welcome.

Advent Video Snippets

This coming Advent, we hope to record some quick, short video clips of you sharing what gives you hope and joy, what you’re afraid of, and what makes
you feel loved. Just a few words are enough and you can record them on your phone (or have someone record you) or by Hubert at the church. Send them to
Hubert who will compile the videos.

Need some ideas?
What gives you hope can be new life, or an unexpected phone call.
What gives you joy is maybe the splendour of the fall, children playing, or your
cat purring.
What you’re afraid of is maybe loneliness, or violence.
Maybe what makes you feel loved is this faith community, a kind note, or hugs.

Pick one, a few or all; just a few honest words will do, we’re not expecting profound theological statements.

Ready? Go!
We're Collecting Art Supplies!
