Aloha,

At Hawai’i Gas, we strive to be a trusted partner with our customers and the community to provide options and information so we all can make informed decisions regarding our energy consumption and resource conservation. Here are a few tips and ideas to consider that could save you money as well as save energy and our natural resources.

We recommend our customers to consider things like reducing water temperature settings, washing clothes with full loads and in cold water, reducing shower times, and using mother nature to dry clothes when possible. Click to the Good Energy Tips section of our website for more information. For homeowners and business owners looking to installing new gas appliances, we have several rebates that will save money and energy. Check our Rewards page for the credits or rebates that are available today for new gas appliances.

We encourage collaboration to conserve our precious water resources in Hawaiʻi. For residents on Oʻahu please check the Water Sensible section of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply’s website. There you will find both residential and commercial rebate programs that help with efficiency and conservation while also saving you money. For neighbor islands residents, we encourage you to contact your water provider to learn more.

We recognize water heating continues to be a major expense as electricity prices continue to rise. Because of this, our customers, both residential and commercial, look for systems that are reliable, efficient and able to meet varying levels of demand.

We recommend high efficiency gas water heaters because they are a viable alternative to traditional boilers or water heaters that draw electricity. Because these "on-demand" systems heat water only when it is needed, they come with a few attractive advantages. First, they are energy and economically efficient. The money saved on energy use over time can eventually offset its initial installation costs. Also, these systems eliminate the need for multiple large storage tanks and frees up valuable square footage through compact, space-saving design. Plus, gas water heaters offer scalability and can be expanded in the future as energy needs change.

In a recent installation, Halekulani, the 453-room luxury hotel in Waikiki, replaced their old, inefficient boilers with 32 new gas tankless water heaters that will serve multiple areas in the hotel including hot water demands for guest rooms and their in-house laundry service.
Energy efficient gas water heaters were the topic of discussion at a recent Mōʻiliʻili Resident Manager's Association meeting in November. Along with American Savings Bank and Fergusonʻs Commercial Plumbing, Hawaiʻi Gas presented building and property managers with the advantages of gas water heaters.
Offering energy efficient options like tankless gas water heaters for our partners and customers is just one of the ways Hawaiʻi Gas is committed to creating a more affordable and resilient future for Hawaiʻi. Along with other projects like increasing our renewable natural gas offerings and furthering the use of hydrogen in our pipelines, it is in line with our clean energy plans to help the state achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2045.

Mauna Loa Eruption

As of Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Hawaiʻi Gas is carefully monitoring the Mauna Loa eruption on the Big Island. At this time, we have determined that there is no direct impact to our operations or service to our gas customers. We will continue to work with government and civil defense officials as the situation progresses. For more information on preparedness during times of emergency, see the Safety Section on our website.

Hawaiʻi Gas Scholarship Program

Hawaiʻi Gas has long been a supporter of professionals in the culinary industry as well as students pursuing their dreams of entering the field. That's why we support Leeward Community College's Culinary Arts program by providing financial support to deserving students through the Hawaiʻi Gas Culinary Arts Scholarship. Recent scholarship recipients reached out to personally thank Hawaiʻi Gas for the opportunity:

“With my daughter being so young, I want to be able to provide for her…this scholarship will give me the head start and motivation to do that.” -K.E.

“I’m grateful for your support because with this money not only does it help me with my career goals but is an assurance that I am on the right path.” -C.S.

“I had to be very cautious about the colleges I applied to because I was worried about tuition payments but with this scholarship, I can continue to focus on my studies.” -G.C.
