Happy new year

Dear friends and family.

We hope you had a good break over the Christmas period, remembering again the amazing events of that first night in Bethlehem. Our Hungarian Christmas was relatively quiet (as much as it can be with three lively children). There were no guests at the inn, and we didn't travel much. It was, however lovely to be with Zsófi's family, sing in a church choir and get plenty of rest and watch too many episodes of Madam Secretary. (A highly recommended political drama)

Looking into January ...
Whilst we weren't back in the UK for Christmas or New Year it was lovely to be in the UK briefly for the wedding of Sophie Smith and Tom Tresidder (Sat 4th Jan). Andy was honoured to be asked to preach, and we enjoyed the weekend catching up with folk in Sheffield. Andy is due to fly back soon for the annual youth conference.

It's nice to be asked ...
Whilst having ones own ideas about mission and training is exciting, it is even more exciting when people on the ground ask for our help. We have worked closely with some great Hungarian youth pastors, and recently Andy has been asked to be on the leadership of both a large youth leaders' conference, and a significant youth organisation.
Looking ahead to 2020...

We are definitely excited about the increased focus we now have on training up youth leaders in how to teach the Bible. We also see the great benefit and blessing of running English-Hungarian Youth camps. Therefore we're prayerful about what that means, and maybe who can take on the role of keeping camps going. Please pray with us.

So ... Happy New Year, and do feel free to drop us a line to let us know how we can be praying for you.

As always - Here's a summary of things to praise God for and pray for us.
Praise God for …
  • We have really enjoyed spending time at the 'Sarokkő (Cornerstone) Evangelical Protestant Church' where we are currently doing the teaching at their youth group. A good number of the congregation used to attend our church in Biatorbágy, so it's nice to reconnect with them. We are committed to helping with their youth group until the summer.  (see pictures below)
  • Singing in a choir. Neither of us have ever done that before, but it was such a blessing, and a real spiritual boost over the Christmas period. It was hard work, but good work. Extra challenge for Andy having to learn Hungarian words too - but thankfully we knew many of the songs, and the leader was great. Praise God for a good number of non-Christian friends and neighbours who came and thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • Jonathan - Andy's brother continuing to recover well after his operation, and has no need for chemotherapy :)
  • A good rest over the Christmas break.
  • December was a good month to think about our processes and plan for 2020.
  • Finally setting up a Hungarian Bank account for Acorncamps which has made a number of things much easier.
  • Lovely time with Jamie Read visiting us from Crosslinks
