🏠 Casa de Costilla

—–Things I Ate

As is tradition, one of the boys (Michael, Edward, Joshua) had reservations that they forgot about. So we ended up at the House of Prime Rib for an evening of libations and laughter. We joke that we three are the only friends we have but Ed brought a new friend, also named Michael, to the dinner. He was a welcomed addition and in no time was doing call back jokes and telling funny stories about Ed. He fit right in.

❤️ Valentine's Day

—–Things I Ate

Sophia visited on February 15th, on the way home I was asking her what she wanted to eat, we started naming places and settled on one. She walked into the house with the table set and a rose and asked her if it was ok that we eat in tonight lol.

She had been talking about eating a steak and so I consulted my meat friend Michael and he suggested sous vide steak which was incredible. Paired with Parmesan scalloped potatoes and a Caesar salad. It was a perfect night.

Whilst Sophia was here, Michael also asked if we would like to dine with him at a new Spanish tapas restaurant to which we said, “duh.” We got a smattering of things; charcuterie, cheeses, croquets, and paella. Each was delicious.

✊🏾 Black Panther

—–Things I Saw

I was super excited to see this movie. I saw it with Sophia first then I saw it again the following day with Paige and Christian. So much about the movie was amazing, the music, the ways it was shot, the modern screenwriting, the way it seamlessly folds itself into the already crowded Marvel universe. It was a great film—I mean I saw it twice. There was a great line at the end where King T’Challa says: “In times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers.” I guess with everything going on it felt like a salient, comforting point that there truly is more that connects us than separates us. We just need to find a way to reach out to make that connection. WAKANDA FOREVER.

🐶 Monty

—–Things I Saw

I feel like I rarely see this guy anymore. I got to puppy sit him for a bit while Alan was making financial models or something. Adding Monty to your Three Things scroll is always a good idea.

✨ Connect

—–Things I Saw

I started at UserTesting eighteen months ago and about two months in Emily (my co-worker) and I started what would become Connect, a new design system for our product. It is the largest project I’ve worked on that has impacted every one of our external customers and internal teams. It was a huge team effort, a lot ups and downs, we had a pink button, then we got rid of the pink button, we almost disbanded at one point, we had to prove to the executives that we should be a team, and most importantly prove to ourselves that we could do it. Lots more work coming and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

🇨🇳 Chinese New Year

—–Places I Went

Michael, Edward, Alakai and I went out the last weekend of February and unknowingly stumbled out into a Chinese New Year parade. We went on a mini bar crawl in the Embarcadero and ended up in Chinatown where everyone was out lighting fireworks and dancing in the streets. We went to our favorite Chinatown bar, Buddha Bar, for a few beers and a few laughs.

☎️ Drake Party

—–Places I Went

If you’ve been following this newsletter for a while you’ll remember these Drake Parties. Like minded Drake enthusiasts, like ya boy, gather in San Francisco for a night of crooning and making careers out of reminiscing. This event was the great return after a bit of a hiatus and it was a glorious return.

🥂 The Riddler

—–Places I Went

If you asked Sophia what her favorite drink of choice is, she’d say champagne. Actually if you asked her any question I’m pretty sure the answer would some how be champagne. A new champagne bar opened up in SF and I just had to take her. The typography of the tables and menus were amazing. Each table has a reserved for [insert celebrity name] on it, ours was reserved for Beyoncé (she didn’t end up making the reservation). The vibe of the place was just fun and sparkling just like the wines they serve. Would go back again 11/10.
