Three Things

Month Year — Issue No. 00

A lot of celebrations this month! Firstly my sister graduated high school and is already about 2 weeks on her own in college! She’s attending College of the Canyons and is playing soccer there. Golden State Warriors swept the Cleveland Lebrons for their third championship title. I finally launched the redesign of Paradise Soccer Club. My Dad and my Grandmother celebrated birthdays this month—although my grandma has told me that she would not like me to remind her that she is getting older and to just give her the desserts.

Scorpion dropped last Thursday. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

Austin and I made a dish from Ottolenghi’s “Jerusalem” cookbook - roasted butternut squash with tahini and za’atar. It was one of those meals that I continued thinking of and wanting for weeks after eating it. So good

—–Things I Ate

I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant out for a while now and I finally got my chance this month. Sophia and I went to the award-winning omakase place and it did not disappoint. Each nigiri was delicious we got another round of the otoro as one does. We also accidentally killed a bottle of sake. Also toward the end of the meal, we turned on the Warriors – Cavs game just in time to see the sweep. Go, Dubs!

She said, "do you love me?" I tell her only partly, I only love my mom's furikake chicken I'm sorry.

Every time I’m home my Mom takes the time to plan out and cook my favorite meal: Furikake Chicken. It’s always a highlight of my trip. She’s probably been making this for me for 20 years at this point and I still can’t get enough. Thanks, Mom I love you!

Al's Place

—–Things I Ate

Every year we plan a surprise dinner for one of the guys. Although it’s not really a surprise because we know it’s coming but that doesn’t stop us from texting things to throw the birthday boy off the scent. This year we told Ed:

”Thursday, June 21 at 7:30 pm be ready to travel with 1 toothbrush, 1 pair of socks, and 1 smile. We'll tell you the location as it gets closer to the date...”

We all went to Al’s place and omg that was an amazing dinner. Most things on the menu were vegetarian forward—whole radishes served with salt and butter and a salad with potatoes that you eat with your hands. However the proteins they do have stole the show. They served a dry aged ribeye that was charred to perfection. We laughed and drank a few bottles of wine to ring in Edwards birthday.

—–Things I Saw

My dad and my grandma have the same birthday and I had the pleasure to be home to celebrate it! We took them out to Tokoname and my dad pretty much got one of everything. He then asked that we go around and reflect on the last year and it was just a special moment for us all to be together.

Slightly Stoopid

—–Things I Saw

Chris begrudgingly went to Drake Party for me, so I begrudgingly went to a concert with him. It was at the Greek in Berkeley and it was a lot of fun! We missed Pepper but got to see the band he wanted to see. We spent the day in the sunny side of the amphitheater drinking beer and pointing out all the hippie parents who brought their kids to the show.

Pande Week

—–Things I Saw

UserTesting is distributed between San Francisco, Mountain View, and Atlanta. There are also a lot of employees working outside of those areas like Morocco and Hawaii. Biannually we try to get everyone together for a week to work on hackathon like projects and build relationships with those we don’t see every day. It’s a lot it packed into one week but it’s always fun. We had a picnic in a park, played soccer, sang karaoke, went to the Academy of Sciences, and silk screened our own shirts. It was good to see everyone and actually all work in the same place.

—–Places I Went

The reason I went home this month. My baby sister graduated high school! It’s been strange watching her grow from afar but never too far away. She is a very respectful person and is always thinks about how her actions affect others. She is an amazing soccer player and always leaves it all on the field. She’s very resilient and can bounce back from anything. I’m proud to say she will be attending College of the Canyons to play soccer! I’m excited about the opportunity to see her more often. Congrats Boogs!

Embarcadero Bar Crawl

—–Places I Went

Sophia, the boys, and I went on an accidental bar crawl in the Embarcadero. We started at hog island oyster co for some oysters and libations. We continued on, following the water until we ended up at hill stone where our buddy Mike was waiting for us. It was a super fun day!

Torrey Pines State Park

—–Places I Went

While in San Diego, Sophia and I went to Torrey Pines Beach for a walk. It was a pretty overcast day but that didn’t stop Sophia shedding light on nature all around us. She started with the huge rock sediment educating me on how to tell how old this rock formation has been there. She was quick to point out gray pelicans and the reason that they fly in a formation is that it gives them all lift so they don’t have to exert as much energy. It’s like I have my own personal Magic School Bus everywhere I go!
